Thriving with Parkinson's
On Wednesday, August 29th over 350 individuals joined the Parkinson Association for a free educational event at Mile High Station dedicated to empowering those living with Parkinson's disease and their care partners. Participants learned about new resources available to them to help them thrive with Parkinson's.

Keynote speaker, Ben Petrick, former Rockies Baseball Catcher, shared his inspiring story of 40,000 to One. The significance of this title is twofold: First, 40,000 Americans are diagnosed with Parkinson's each year, as Petrick was in 2000 at the remarkably young age of 22. Second, Petrick eventually left the game and became a caregiver to his infant daughter, going from playing before crowds of 40,000 to an audience of one. It was this "one" who revealed to him a love that made him embrace the future and discover a courage he never knew he had.

Petrick also spent time taking questions from the audience and meeting with his fans to autograph his book and meet with them personally.

"When I am making art, I am not focused on my disease or its symptoms such as tremors or dyskinesia. I feel relaxed and peaceful when I am so focused on creating new images." - Kris Krishnan from Art as Therapy for Parkinson's Disease by Harriet Wadeson, PhD, ATR-BC, HLM, LCSW.

Cocktails available for purchase and light appetizers will be provided
The ParkinsonVoice printed newsletter is a valuable publication, yet with the constant increases in printing and postage costs, this newsletter has become one of the Association's most expensive costs. You can help us reduce this cost and allocate more funding to expand programs and services by Going Green! The ParkinsonVoice will be available online, on your iPad, iPhone and Android.
