Welcome from André Chapman

Dear Friends,

Our economy is in its worst state in decades, and California is facing a 15 billion dollar budget deficit. We know in tough financial times the budget gets balanced on the backs of the unfortunate and underserved.

Unity Care remains committed to our mission and purpose as an organization, and through your support and partnership we will continue to provide the highest quality of services and care to our clients.

In the midst of these financial challenges, we do have great news. We've highlighted our highly anticipated Open House at our Monterey County office set for next Thursday, June 26th. Please stop by and join us in this celebration! Additionally, we have highlights from our Summer of Learning Program that exposes our youth and families to fun, interactive, challenging and explorative activities that they normally do not have. Please read below for more exciting details about our youth’s recent trip to the Yosemite National Park.

Best wishes,

André Chapman

SJCC Communications Class Collects Donations and Raises Funds

We'd like to sincerely thank San Jose City College's Communications Class for hosting a Summer of Learning fundraiser at California Pizza Kitchen (CPK) on May 7th.  They worked hard to promote the event amongst students, friends and family.   The class helped raise a total of $348 dollars, which will go towards summertime activities for our youth and families.

Additionally, the team also collected donations such as clothing, gift cards, and household items for Unity Care's residential foster youth.

Our youth and staff truly appreciate the class' generous support.

Yosemite Trip Exposes Youth to the Great Outdoors

Our Summer of Learning program is underway and we can already see the positive impact these explorative, fun, and educational experiences have on our youth.

On May 31st, Unity Care's foster youth enjoyed a beautiful day at Yosemite National Park along with staff and caretakers.

David Hawkey, our Therapeutic Behavioral Specialist, attended the day long trip and describes his personal feelings about this wonderful life-changing experience.

David said "This trip was not only a shining moment for UC, but the foster care system in general. I saw our kids smiling and laughing and having such a healing experience out there in the woods with their caretakers and their peers. I had the chance to stand at the base of Yosemite Falls with my girls from House 2 and watch these kids laugh, yell and scream and high five each other with the sheer delight that they all had accomplished a hike together."

"These are kids that if not for Unity Care, would most likely have never had the chance to experience the majesty of this place. In my opinion, our kids did so well, that I forgot that I was working with foster youth, and that I just enjoying the company of "young friends."

We have some great activities planned for our youth.  Click here to view the activity calendar.

Please make a donation online or by mail to support summertime activities for our youth and family today.
