New Years Reflections
This is the time of year when many of us are reflecting on the events from the past year. Have you pursued goals, fulfilled dreams, brought to completion unfinished business from earlier last year?
Perhaps you had some ties to cut, boundaries to keep in check. Whatever it was that you set forth in the beginning of 2011, now is a good time to reflect, review and re-set new intentions for 2012.
If possible, take a whole day of solitude and devote it to yourself in this way. Write some thoughts down on paper so you have a record and reminder to return to.
Some journaling ideas:
What did you learn from this past year? Are there any life lessons that really stand out? Are there any relationship patterns that keep repeating? Are there parts of yourself that you are ready to let go? Examine these parts and recognize that they played a significant role in creating who you are today. Give thanks and move on. What events made you come alive this year? Think of social events, time spent in nature, an interaction with a stranger, a coffee date with a friend. Anything. Re-live those moments and notice how you felt, notice the quality of your being at the time. And remember it, as this is the feeling of LIVING. With time, we become trained to notice the people, places and activities that DO or DO NOT make us come alive. Pay attention.
