Greetings!

Family holidays can easily stir up unpleasant memories from the past and as a result, many of us become the adolescent we once were. We forget our courtesies and emotions run wild as we create tension all around us. For this holiday season, let us put aside past conflicts and current differences and celebrate coming together.

Below are some encouraging survival tips that can help us unite with family in a more joyous and peaceful way.

Happy Holidays,

Staff at Peaceful Meadow Retreat

Simple ways to make the holidays light and easy

  • Be on your best behavior, as if you are going to an important business meeting.
  • Avoid that extra drink, as alcohol tends to stir up unnecessary anger and resentment
  • "Listen more talk less" OR "Listen but do not react"
  • Schedule alone time - go for a walk, attend a local yoga class (do some research before travelling), take a "nap" (even if you are not tired, this is a great excuse to get some relief)
  • Before you leave or before family members arrive, take some time to reflect on behavior patterns that arise during family get-togethers. The simple awareness of these often negative patterns helps prevent them from re-surfacing.
  • Start taking flower essences now and continue after the holidays are over

Some choice holiday flower essences in a nut shell:

Glenda Green

Beech: for those who are intolerant of other people's idiosyncrasies, are overly critical and are easily irritated by other people's mannerisms, habits or shortcomings.

Impatiens: these people are usually fast thinkers and workers and are impatient with those who are slower. They often have inner tension, a quick temper and show signs of irritation. Anyone ever notice their short fuse intensify around family members?

Larch: this flower essence is related to lack of self-confidence, something that often but not always stems from childhood. Throughout life larch people have an attitude of failure that limits them from their full potential. Larch flower essence may be helpful for people whose insecurities surface and intensify each time they face their families.

Elm people often put others' needs above their own and as a result get easily overwhelmed. They forget to take care of their own emotional and physical well being and in the end have trouble dealing with day to day life. This is a great remedy for mothers during one of the busiest times of the year.

Rescue Remedy is a great general remedy for any situation that causes us to lose our center of gravity. Busy airports, malls, traffic and traveling to a different state can cause us to lose our balance. Rescue remedy brings us back to wholeness so that we can calmly deal with the present situation.
