Greetings!
|
There has been a great deal happening here at Pink Therapy HQ. I've had to retender for the Directory database due to failed deadlines and have recommissioned another engineer to work on this - he's working full-time on it now and I hope to have some more positive news by the next newsletter.
We were invited to help with providing support for the recent Say No to Hate vigil in Trafalgar Square to mark the recent attacks on gay men in London and Liverpool, this was a great sign of our presence in the community.
Discussion and work continues to put PT into a different legal structure to enable us to grow.
I'm also getting some more admin help with various projects within the organisation which is taking some of the pressure off me. So welcome to Olivier who's doing some office admin, Jack is managing the Directory project and Joaquin is continuing with the newsletter and website redesign.

Supervision of Sexual Minority Therapy Friday 20th November 2009
|
We are offering our one-day seminar for clinical supervisors to further their knowledge and understanding of supervising therapists working with gender and sexual minority clients.
Since working with sexual minority clients is rarely covered in counselling and psychotherapy training programmes, or supervision trainings, then we think that supervisors working with therapists of all sexualities might appreciate an opportunity to come and discover what is different and what is similar in supervising sexual minority therapy.
This seminar will be facilitated by Dominic Davies, and will be a mixture of some didactic input, discussion and possibly some live supervision if that seems to be useful.

Study on Gay/Bi blind men
|
Ray O Neill is a Clinical Lacanian Psychoanalyst currently undertaking doctorate study exploring how gay/bisexual men who have been blind since birth speak about their sexuality, sexual knowledge and knowing their desire. He is particularly interested in ways in what such information might have to say towards Freudian/Lacanian psychoanalytic theories of sexual identity and identifications, as well as what they might say to the cultural understanding that male sexuality is visually determined. Ray is currently looking for participants and information/support so if you are interested or know of someone who could be interested in participating or assisting with this study please get in touch with Ray at: ray@machna.ie

Loving Men New Year's gathering 29th Dec 2009 to 1st Jan 2010
|
Loving Men at New Year, their third New Year's gathering, will take place at Buckland Hall in the Brecon Beacons, from 29th Dec 2009 to 1st Jan 2010.
There'll be the usual Loving Men mix of warmth, fun and connection, as well as many opportunities to get to know new people, reconnect with old friends - if you've been to an event before, reflect on your year, and have some fun trying out new activities and reconnecting with old ones.
The overall theme this year is Making Things Happen in 2010. Whatever your dreams, big or small, intimate or grand, the step by step process of making them real, taking the necessary risks, braving the disappointments, reaching out for support, staying focused and enjoying the journey however it turns out, is challenging and complex for most of us. These themes will infuse the different activities throughout the event.
There'll be a balance between party time and quiet time, activity and rest, space to connect with yourself at this turning point of the year and time to interact with others. There'll be facilitated small and large groups, and a special celebration and party on New Year's eve.
As usual there's a range of optional workshops, run by experienced invited facilitators, including: 5 Rhythms Dance, An Art Workshop, Massage & Sensual Touch, Social Dreaming, The Art of Play, Contact Improvisation, Making Changes in 2010, A Walk in the local countryside and Poetry Writing - and others in the pipeline.
A range of accommodation is available, please see www.lovingmen.org for more info or call us on the number below. The cost of the workshop varies depending on the type of accommodation you choose, from £299 to £350 (and there are some single rooms available for an additional supplement) - this covers all costs, including three delicious meals a day. (there is a bursary scheme available, get in touch with them for more information)
More info is on www.lovingmen.org, or you can email enquiries@lovingmen.org or call 07973 188 280

WINTER
COLLOQUIUM: BEYOND THE PINK CURTAIN?
22nd January 2010
|
EASTERN
EUROPEAN SEXUALITIES, HOMOPHOBIA AND WESTERN EYES.
Sexualities,
as aspects of identity and as part of the public language of nation, are
a controversial feature of post-communist transition in Central and
Eastern Europe. Radical political changes have led to the emergence of new
social actors, such as the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) movement, the airing
of new discourses about sexuality, as well as the eruption of new
social conflicts and divisions.
This
interdisciplinary Colloquium will bring together scholars in the
social sciences, history, Slavic and other area studies, as well as activists
from LGBT communities, to examine the relationships between gender,
nation and sexuality. How, for example, did the emergence of revised
national identities after 1989 relate to new conceptions of non-normative
gender and sexuality? What were the local dimensions of the lesbian and gay
question, and why did they develop? How did queer sexualities in this region evolve
historically? And what
influence does that historical legacy have today? What
are the specificities and particularities of Central and Eastern European
sexual identities, within the region and compared with Western and other
non-Western formations?
THERE
WILL BE A SCREENING OF THE FILM BEYOND
THE PINK CURTAIN (2009) AND A DISCUSSION WITH DIRECTOR MATTHEW CHARLES AT 3PM
