Our Clinical Associate Catherine Butler is co-editing a book on diversity and has sent us this appeal for contributors:
Do you feel you have something to write about the diversity within lesbian, gay and bisexual lives?
We are putting together a book that aims to widen the existing psychological and therapeutic literature on lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) issues within a British context. The book will unpick what it means to be lesbian, gay, and bisexual by exploring the social-cultural differences within these labels and how these differences interact to make being LGB a unique experience for each person who use these labels or identities. The aim of the book will be to open up therapists' understanding of this diversity and encourage their curiosity when working with sexual minority clients. It is hoped that by doing this, therapists will work in an ethical, supportive and non-discriminatory way with sexual minority clients.
We plan to have separate chapters that explore difference and diversity around:
- gender
- ethnicity and race
- religion/faith/spiritual communities
- Migrants/refugees/asylum seekers
- age
- class
- physical and mental heath
- disability
Each chapter will be about 10,000 words. Obviously these chapters will overlap in places, and as editors we will encourage this and support cross-referencing by having an overview of the whole book as it progresses.
We are particularly keen to have input from clinical psychologists, psychotherapists, CBT specialists, psychiatrists, and counsellors. Chapters can be written by individuals or small groups (of up to four people). We welcome multi-disciplinary collaboration on each chapter.
