Greetings!
Dominic DaviesAugust is traditionally a quieter month for therapists.  Well that's the rumour we've heard!  There seems little sign of it here at Pink Therapy HQ - with selection interviews for our new one-year Certificate in Sexual Minority Therapy course starting off the month and then a number of writing projects on the go for some autumn teaching Dominic has been invited to do in addition to recruiting participants for our wide-range of training workshops (Click here for an A5 flyer with full details).

Dominic will also be putting together a conference proposal for the UKCP.  There just aren't enough hours in the day!
Essentials in Sexual Minority Therapy Course
Commencing 4 October
imageOur very successful Essentials course has now been extended to a five day course to allow more time to explore contemporary models of sexual and gender diversity and a more in depth exploration of Sexual Minority Therapy.  We hope to welcome therapists of all sexual and gender identities and the course is relevant for therapists from all therapeutic modalities.

Workshops can be taken individually although preference will be given to those booking for the whole course. For further including dates etc, click here.
Are you a Supervisor?
Advanced Workshops from 11th October

Trans and Gender Variant Research Participants

TG logo
Tina Livingstone, known to many of you as one of our trainers in working with trans clients and a Pink Therapy Accredited Sexual Minorities Therapist is undertaking a qualitative study into trans clients experiences of therapy as part of her Masters in Counselling at the University of Strathclyde. Her research aims to inform good practice in counselling and psychotherapy.
She is looking for people who are trans-identified (transvestite, transgender, transsexual) or trans-historied (have completed gender reassignment).

This research concerns Trans-Identified and Trans-Historied clients' experience of appropriate and inappropriate therapists' practices toward them in Counselling and Psychotherapy

It is about experience of counselling and psychotherapy for issues such as loss, bereavement, work related stress, bullying, relationship problems etc. Human issues that may occur without, prior to, alongside or after gender reassignment.

The research is not concerned with the process or outcomes of gender reassignment itself.

If you would like to know more and would kindly consider taking part please click on this link to complete an online survey.  Feel free to pass this information to friends and clients. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=4IYxDh2KO_2frQJC1fSmnIrA_3d_3d

Diversity of LGB lives Contributors required for new book

CloudSmOur Clinical Associate Catherine Butler is co-editing a book on diversity and has sent us this appeal for contributors:
Do you feel you have something to write about the diversity within lesbian, gay and bisexual lives?

We are putting together a book that aims to widen the existing psychological and therapeutic literature on lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) issues within a British context. The book will unpick what it means to be lesbian, gay, and bisexual by exploring the social-cultural differences within these labels and how these differences interact to make being LGB a unique experience for each person who use these labels or identities. The aim of the book will be to open up therapists' understanding of this diversity and encourage their curiosity when working with sexual minority clients. It is hoped that by doing this, therapists will work in an ethical, supportive and non-discriminatory way with sexual minority clients.

We plan to have separate chapters that explore difference and diversity around:
  • gender
  • ethnicity and race
  • religion/faith/spiritual communities
  • Migrants/refugees/asylum seekers
  • age
  • class
  • physical and mental heath
  • disability
Each chapter will be about 10,000 words. Obviously these chapters will overlap in places, and as editors we will encourage this and support cross-referencing by having an overview of the whole book as it progresses.

We are particularly keen to have input from clinical psychologists, psychotherapists, CBT specialists, psychiatrists, and counsellors. Chapters can be written by individuals or small groups (of up to four people). We welcome multi-disciplinary collaboration on each chapter.

If you could like to find out more, please contact Roshan das Nair and Catherine Butler on the following emails:
Rosh - roshan.nair@nottingham.ac.uk
Catherine - butler.catherine@gmail.com

We hope to hear from you by the end of August so we can submit the proposal to the publishers
