Greetings!
|
At the risk of blowing our own trumpet too much, Dominic received his fellowship from the President of BACP, Professor Cary Cooper, at their annual conference earlier in the month. The fellowship was awarded for his "distinguished contribution to the fields of counselling and psychotherapy." Also being honoured that evening was Dr Lynne Gabriel who co-wrote a chapter on Dual Relationships and Ethics with Dominic for Pink Therapy Volume 3, so two out of three people receiving fellowships were gay and lesbian!
Dominic also presented a seminar at the conference to a capacity audience where he discussed what the dominant culture might learn from those who have a sexual or gender minority lifestyle or identity.

Training News

Supervision of Sexual Minority Therapy The first of our four day workshops on this subject was very successful - with highly positive evaluations. There are still places on the next workshop on Friday 23 November and if you are involved in supervising sexual minority therapy we're confident you will find it of value, whatever your level of experience. The first workshop was attended two of our recently accredited therapists and they both found it very useful. We also premiered a new training video - a demonstration of a sexual minority therapy session with Charles Neal as the therapist. Click here for more details of the workshop
Relationship Therapy workshop - 17 Nov This workshop is now full. Please feel free to email us about a waiting list place, or to let us know if you would be interested the next time we run it.
Essentials in Sexual Minority Therapy - Jan- April 08 We are actively recruiting for this four day course. This is a very well received and intensive course, with quite a bit of pre and post course reading. It is ideal for anyone who feels their initial therapy training inadequately prepared them for working with a wide range of gender and sexual minority clients, and is absolutely invaluable for anyone who is wanting to specialise in working in this area. Lesbian, Gay or Bisexual and Over 50? |
If you know someone who meets this criteria then Polari is carrying out a survey of lesbians, gay men and bisexuals (LGBs) who are aged 50 or over. The survey focuses on their experience of, and views about, general practice (doctors' surgeries and health centres). The survey focuses on sexual orientation, not, in this case on gender identity, however they hope to receive responses from trans people who are lesbian, gay or bisexual and aged 50 and over.
The survey will inform evidence they are providing to Age Concern England and a summary of the findings will be available on the internet in future. If you wish to take part, please read the Information for Participants that accompanies the survey. Here is an online version:
If you want a hard copy (with freepost address), email Lindsay River at: policy@polari.org
