Greetings!
polari_logoWe hope you had a good break over the summer and are feeling refreshed and ready for some excitement this autumn!

We've been busy here at Pink Therapy planning some exciting new developments to raise the standard of therapy available to sexual minorities as well as providing some exciting new workshops for practitioners.

We've decided to postpone our Certificate in Sexual Minority Therapy until September 2008. We now have four confirmed and suitable applicants selected and would welcome others wanting to enrol, please don't leave it too late as we may be recommending some pre-course learning/experiences.

We do have one or two places left on our four-day Essentials in Sexual Minority Therapy course starting on 29 September.  Further details click here
Are you working with black and minority ethnic LGBT clients?
black_brothersPink Therapy Clinical Associate, Anthony Johnson has agreed to share some of his experience in working with people from the black and minority ethnic (BME) community and facilitate a safe space where therapists can learn about some of the key external factors which can affect sexual minorities from the BME communities as well help us, as participants explore some of our cultural assumptions and beliefs. Anthony will share some culturally appropriate interventions and allow plenty of opportunities for discussions and questions.

The workshop will take place at our Soho offices on Saturday 20th October at the usual workshop time of 1-7pm, which normally allows travel from most of the UK.

Do You Supervise Sexual Minority Therapy?
polari_logoCALLING ALL CLINICAL SUPERVISORS!!

Since working with sexual minority clients is rarely covered in counselling and psychotherapy training programmes, or even on supervision trainings, then we think that supervisors working with therapists of all sexualities might appreciate an opportunity to come and discover what is different and what is similar in supervising sexual minority therapy.

The workshops will take place on a Friday (10am - 4pm) in our Soho offices and we are deliberately keeping numbers small to encourage a safe and reflective ambience and to be able have space to discuss questions and issues raised in the group.  We are also planning to pilot a new in-house traning video demonstrating sexual minority therapy.

Relationship Therapy
Wedding RingsWe are holding a workshop entitled Committed or Not? Relationship Therapy with Same Sex Couples, aimed at therapists who are working with gay men or lesbians in relationships.

Damian McCann, one of our clinical associates, and a highly experienced relationship therapist will facilitate the workshop.

A key objective of this workshop is to help participants develop conceptual frameworks for undertaking effective assessment and therapy with sexual minority couples. To that end, research findings, theory and practice in the field will be utilised. The role of the therapist in relation to couple work will also be explored and dilemmas and challenges facing the therapist will be considered.

Survey Help Needed
polari_logoEach year THT funds Vital Statistics - the annual Gay Men's Sex Survey - the
survey helps to inform sexual health and HIV prevention projects for gay and
bisexual men through out the UK. The survey is also important to provide a
robust evidence base for future funding of gay health projects - many of
which are currently being eroded by funding cuts.

The survey takes less than 10 minutes to complete and is totally
confidential. The more men recruited to the survey, the better the
information we get. We also strive to get as many diverse men as possible.
The only criteria is that you currently live in the UK.

It would be great if you would be willing to click on the link below and
complete the survey. It would be better still if, after completing the
survey, you forward this email to as many gay or bisexual men in the UK you
know.

If you're also living with HIV, a new survey called What Do You Need? is
taking place this year. It's also funded by THT and is the first national
survey of positive people in the UK for five years. Please also pass the
survey link to as many positive people as you know [the survey isn't just
for gay men].

Actress Needed!
thinking_womanAre you someone who liked 'role-play' during your therapy training course?  After our success of filming a demonstration of a Sexual Minority Therapy session with a gay man, we're now planning to do the same with a lesbian client.

We're looking for a woman ideally aged 35-40 years old who can play a client presenting with issues around deciding whether to have children.

It would help if you were based in London. If you are interested and want to know more, please contact Dominic Davies dominic.davies@pinktherapy.com

Soho Consulting Room available
polari_logoWe have some limited (daytime) availability in our premises.  The consulting room is furnished with a two seater settee and armchair, there is also a table and chair available to write notes, and somewhere to store stationery  and practice materials.

The room has it's own en-suite bathroom.  It is simply decorated with one photograph of a landscape and no gay identified artworks and therefore suitable for someone who has a mixed practice.  Therapists are expected to book for four hour blocks (08.30-12.30; 1pm - 5pm)

It is on the third floor of a residential block in a quiet side street in Soho - 3 mins walk from Piccadilly Circus tube.  For further details click here.

Thanks for your interest and please remember to keep us informed of anything that is directly relevant to therapists working with sexual minority clients.

Please feel free to pass this newsletter on to any colleagues you think may be interested, using the link below.
