Working with Sexual Feelings in the Consulting Room
sex bomb
Most therapists will be aware of sexual feelings in their therapeutic work with clients. Some therapists will see frame this as erotic transference or counter transference and perhaps not be willing to see any here and now erotic feelings as belonging to them and the client.

Sexual feelings may emanate only from the client, but most of us will recognise our own feelings of attraction to some clients from time to time.  Rarely are therapists taught to work with these issues, and often therapists find it difficult taking such complex feelings to supervision.  It may be particularly difficult to seek consultation on such feelings if one is a gay male therapist due to societal projections on to gay men as "hypersexual" and "predatorily seductive."

This workshop will explore sexual attraction and erotic feelings, whether 'real' or transference based and how one can work with them ethically and professionally. There is tremendous therapeutic potential in being able to work creatively with such feelings.

Dominic Davies and Leah Davidson will be co-facilitating a workhop on this topic on Saturday June 9 from 1-7pm in Central London.  To download a flyer for this workshop, please click here.
Alternatively, you can find out more from the training section of the website.

Essentials in Sexual Minority Therapy commences 29 Sept 2007
PT PresentsOur popular four-day Essentials in Sexual Minority has already started to recruit for the September start.  It's one day a month for four months.

We present updated information on gender and sexual identity, explore models of sexual minority therapy and increasing awareness of the social context of gender and sexual minorities in Day One which is facilitated by Dominic Davies and Catherine Butler. The second day is on Internalised Oppression and is facilitated by Charles Neal. Day Three is on Working with People Coming Out and facilitated by Deirdre Haslam and the final day explores professional and ethical issues involved in sexual minority therapy and resources and is with Dominic and Catherine again.

There is extensive pre and post course reading for some of the days.  Places are limited and this is the only time we will run this course this year.

Information Volunteer/Researcher Wanted
booksFollowing our appeal last month for a volunteer/researcher, we're delighted that Stephan Dias has volunteered to help us update our bibliotherapeutic resources which will help that section of our website become even more useful.

We're looking still for another volunteer to help update our Resources section on the website. We're wanting to expand and develop the website listings).  We need someone with accurate typing skills.  Much  of this work can be done at home in your own time if that suits.

We will cover expenses and lunches when/if you need to work at Pink Therapy HQ.

If you want to improve your own knowledge about the field of sexual minority therapy and to assist the profession by helping us to disseminate this knowledge then please get in touch with Dominic via email: info@pinktherapy.com
Save Gay's The Word Bookshop
GTW Gay's the WordYou may have heard that Gay's the Word, Britain's only specialist bookshop for LGBT people is under threat and needing to raise £20k in two months.  Well, the good news is they are half way there due to tremendous community support.  However, they still need to raise a further £10k and so if you are interested in saving this valuable community resource, then please either visit their shop or their website and spend a little.

In addition to having a good LGBT psycholgy section, they have an excellent range of self-help (bibliotherapeutic) resources on relationships, self-esteem and sex as well as useful books on LGBT social context (with some good new British LGBT history books) as well of course as a wide range of fiction.

The campaign has had some good coverage. The Times Online covered it here and this is what the Guardian had to say.  Click here for the Gay's the Word website.
