Greetings!

Welcome to our second newsletter of the year. We've a wide range of events to bring to your awareness this month, thanks to everyone for sending us information.

Also, if you are looking to operate your practice in Central London, we’re considering moving our office from Harley St to Soho and if we do we may have some spare capacity in our accommodation to let to experienced practitioners. Preference given to people who would want a double session (morning & afternoon or afternoon/evening). Get in touch if you are interested in knowing more.

self-est_gay
This workshop, will look at the roots of homophobia (both internalised and externalised) from the standpoint of the development of self-esteem - or lack of it. Sometimes referred to as 'narcissistic wounding', the reverberations of low self-esteem play out not simply in terms of individual problems, but are a key determinant of the social politics of the gay scene. Low self-esteem arises from messages within the family of origin as well as the wider cultural context. Despite nearly four decades of gay liberation, and a widening of social opportunity, young LGBT people still suffer from low self-esteem, and it may take several generations to work through the effects of this collective history. The role of counselling and therapy is crucial to this process.

Facilitator: Keith Silvester, Pink Therapy Clinical Associate and Training Director of Psychosynthesis Education and Trust 1pm – 7pm £105 or £95 for members of the Directory of Pink Therapists some limited bursaries for counselling volunteers in LGBT counselling organisations. loving men trio
Loving Men is a once-a-year adventure for gay and bisexual men who want to develop more intimacy in friendships and relationships, with Dennis L. Carney, Alfred Hurst and Tim Foskett. We’ll spend a week in a supportive and fun-loving community, using a range of activities to build deeper relationships with other men. There’ll be many opportunities to make connections, stretch your comfort zone and gain personally from the respect, care and love of other men.

What people have said about Loving Men weeks “Excellent facilitation – warm, welcoming, encouraging, professional, knowledgeable and responsive.” "Loving Men gave me a huge boost of rocket fuel, and the confidence to make changes in my life that I have been moving towards for ages." “I still use the practical techniques we learned, like telling someone how you feel without hurting them.” “The venue is excellent – the best place, and the community members are fantastic.” “The contribution of each man was so valuable – the variety of views and feelings, turning the pre-conceived on its head.”

Queer theory
Subverting What? Perversion, Transgression & Normalisation In Queer Theory & Psychoanalysis - 23 Feb and 2 March This two-day intensive symposium is devoted to looking at four concepts as they are used in queer theory, 'subversion', 'perversion', 'transgression' and 'normalisation', primarily through the lens of psychoanalysis. The seminars focus on a range of sexual acts, the categorisation of those acts and the formation of identities based on them. In this, these seminars will provide a valuable opportunity to critically examine the intersections between psychoanalysis and queer theory, and the potential uses and drawbacks of employing psychoanalysis off the couch.

Two Day-Long Intensive Seminars at University College Dublin, Ireland Friday 23 February 2007 & Friday 2 March 2007 30 Euros booking fee

From Press for Change: "Please encourage as many UK citizens as possible to sign this ASAP, so that as we go into negotiations with government on the proposed new Regulations supposedly affording us protection when accessing goods, services and facilities, we can show the strong support behind our mandate.

Everyday, we receive at least one more cry for help from someone who ahs been refused either a goods, service or facility because they are trans - many are about a refusal to fund access to health care, or being told they will wait 5 or more years before they will be seen for an initial assessment for treatment. Sometimes it will be because they have been thrown out of a bar or restaurant, or asked to not use the leisure centre, or refused a place on a course because it is 'not suitable' i.e. they are not suitable. It goes on and on, and we could cite so many cases of trans people being refused the right of access to goods, services or facilities, especially health care, that other people take for granted."

Thanks for your interest, and please feel free to forward this newsletter to anyone else you think may like to receive it.

With best wishes
