Happy New Year! I hope you have managed to get a good break over the holiday period and are entering 2007 with a spring in your step and your 'compassion chambers' fully replenished!

We haven't been sent a great deal of external news or events to report to you in this issue. I'm sure that will change pretty shortly and February will see the continued growth of this monthly newsletter.

PT Presents
Although the official closing date for Judy Yellin's workshop on The Development of the Self & the Function of the Therapeutic Alliance has passed. We are still accepting late bookings for this unique workshop which is happening on the 20th January.

Feeling comfortable with and knowledgeable about sex and sexuality is something many therapists feel they lack. When it comes to understanding more about minority sexuality then there is often a significant gap in most therapists knowledge.

Our weekend workshop, now in it's third year, seeks to fill that gap and increase your confidence and knowledge in this area. The workshop is on 17 & 18 February.

Like all our training events we have endeavoured to make the training times as convenient at possible to people coming from outside of London, starting as we do at 1pm on the Saturday, and on the Sunday running a regular 9.30-5.30 day. We can even recommend a cheap and local B&B!

Following a successful keynote presentation at their last Annual conference, the Counsellors and Psychotherapists in Primary Care (CPPC) has invited Dominic Davies to present a 'masterclass' on working with sexual minorities in London on Friday 26 January.

The training event is open to Non CPPC members, although is substantially discounted to their own members.

We've flagged this one up a month or so ago, but in case you missed it, the Royal College of Psychiatrists have written some treatment guidelines for working with people presenting with 'gender dysphoria'. The document has taken about three years to come to fruition and is now out for consultation.

If you work with trans clients, please download a copy of the document from our website and either comment directly to the RCP or send us your feedback and we will incorporate it into our own response.

There are some really good proposals in the guidelines, but little consideration has been given to the position of independent therapists such as ourselves and to how we may contribute to the care pathway of our trans clients. Given the increasing numbers of trans clients who are seeking independent gender therapy, then this needs to be addressed. Please share your views.

Thanks for your interest and support, and if YOU have some news to share which is directly relevant to therapists working with sexual minority clients, then please let us know.

With all good wishes for the year ahead!
