Training Workshops
If you've not recently checked out our current
training programme, please do (URL at bottom of this
section). We have a variety of
workshops on a wide range of topics relevant to your
work with sexual minority clients. Most of these
workshops take place on a Saturday from 1pm to
7pm
which is an unusual timing we know, but one which
means that most people can travel to London from
almost anywhere in the rest of the country, thus
saving overnight accommodation on a Friday evening!
Without Condoms: using harm education and
motivational interviewing with gay men having
unprotected anal sex is our next workshop, on
Friday
13th January, and we are bringing Michael Shernoff
over from New York to run this workshop.
Michael has recently written a practice guide for
therapists wanting to understand and work with this
issue, and we know that many of you are concerned
about the huge increase in new HIV infections
amongst gay men. There has been a 67% increase in
infections in this group since 1999. Therapists are
well placed to help gay men explore these issues and
Michael will show us how!
Working with Transgender and Intersex Clients
will
take place on Saturday 14th January facilitated by
Tina Livingstone, a therapist who has been working
with trans clients for over fifteen years.
Introduction to Psychosexual Therapy - this
is a
weekend training, run by Dr Naomi Adams and Dominic
Davies, and it is back by popular demand! The
workshop will be held on Saturday 11th and Sunday
12th February (Valentine's weekend!)
Unless one does a specialist sex therapy training,
one is probably ill prepared for understanding much
about sexuality issues. Even if one did do a
psychosexual training, probably very little was
mentioned about minority sexualities.
We are also offering a personal development workshop
for sexual minority therapists to be run by Keith
Silvester one of our Clinical Associate therapists.
BEAUTIFUL SOULS: ugliness, body fascism
and self-esteem on Saturday 11th March.

Greetings!
Well, after a relatively quiet month last time, we
have plenty of news and event to tell you about this
month!
We'd also like to start of by welcoming
newcomers to
this newsletter, especially those who have recently
joined the Directory of Pink Therapists. We
had
been concerned for some time, about the
geographical gaps in the provision of sexuality
affirmative
therapy around the UK and are delighted that so
many
new people responded to our invitation to join the
Directory. We hope you find it a useful resource.

Same Sex Relationship Survey |
|
Researchers at Sunderland and Bristol Universities
want you to take part in the first ever national
survey about same sex relationships. We want to
know what happens if and when things go
wrong. We
believe that people in same-sex relationships are
entitled to the same support and services as
heterosexuals when things go wrong. This research
aims to contribute to developing such services.

Call for Papers on Lesbian and Gay Parenting |
|
The Journal of GLBT Family Studies is featuring a
guest-edited issue by Fiona Tasker and Jerry J.
Bigner. The special issue will focus on current
state of lesbian and gay parenting and point to new
directions. The special issue will be co-published
in separate hardcover/softcover co-editions.
We especially welcome papers which highlight any of
the following:
• The voices of parents, co-parents, step-
parents,
adoptive parents, foster carers and children in
families led by lesbian and gay parents.
• Recent changes in the judicial arena (e.g.,
empirical and theoretical papers on the impact of
same-sex marriage on lesbian and gay parenting).
• The implications of new reproductive
technologies
for lesbian and gay parenting.
• Family processes in relation to lesbian and
gay
parenting (e.g., roles, boundaries and communication
styles).
• Therapeutic issues relating to gay and
lesbian
parenting.

Gay Play Written by Directory Member Laurie Slade |
|
Plunge Productions present Joe & I , by Laurie
Slade, directed by Joe Harmston. It's 1964.
When
Terry writes to congratulate Joe on the success of
his first play, he isn't prepared for Joe to turn
up, uninvited, in his private apartment, or for the
events which follow... An imaginary encounter
between characters based on real-life playwrights
Terence Rattigan and Joe Orton, with the ghost
of
Oscar Wilde weaving in and out - this is partly an
entertainment, partly a theatrical exploration of
Rattigan's repressed nature and internalised
homophobia. Peter Bowles (To The Manor Born,
The
Irish RM) stars as Terry.

successes. The
conference aims to move beyond the introductory
