The Metro South Chamber of Commerce is getting ready to publish the 2011 Book for Business, a four-color publication that includes a complete membership directory and guide to the Metro South region, including town profiles, legislative information, a map of the region, and information on industrial parks, education, health care facilities and recreation.

The Chamber publishes 5,000 copies of the Book for Business distributes them to all chamber members, real estate offices, town offices, colleges, hotels and families interested in relocating to the Metro South region.  Last year, 4,000 books were mailed to area businesses

Wednesday, July 14: Self Help Inc, presents EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting Class. Beginning in April 2010, contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in homes, child care facilities, and schools built before 1978 must be certified and must follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination. Saturday, July 17: Second Annual Fundraiser for the American Dream Team at Hamids Academy.  5:00 pm.  Admission- $10. The funds collected will be used for Hamids Academy Afterschool Program and Summer Camp. Monday, July 19: 17th Annual OE+ Charity Golf Tournament to benefit the Brockton Area Arc at the Fall River Country Club, 4235 North Main Street, Fall River. Registration and contests will take place from 12-1pm with the shotgun start at 1:15pm, cocktails and 6pm, and dinner and awards at 6:45pm.  Cost per player is $175 which includes golf, cart, dinner, goodie bag and entry into the "skins" contest. A Players Package is available for $25 and includes entry into the chipping, putting, and 50/50 contests along with $50 of raffle tickets. $10,000 cash for a whole in one. The Brockton Area Arc works to provide information and direct services for individuals with disabilities and their families. The Entry Deadline is July 1.

Thursday, July 22: The Greater Brockton Community Health Network Area (CHNA), in collaboration with Lincoln Tech, is seeking residents of Abington, Avon, Brockton, the Bridgewaters, Easton, Holbrook, Stoughton and Whitman, age 18 and older, to view a 30-minute video about community health, followed by a confidential discussion about health concerns in these communities. Wednesday, August 18: Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) Visioning Workshop sponsored by the Old Colony Planning Council.  7pm at the Plymouth Main Library, 132 South St., Plymouth.  The RTP helps to determine how federal and state funding will be spent on transportation infrastructure and services in our communities over the next 20 years.

Saturday, September 11: Good Samaritan Medical Center is seeking
vendors for its 21st annual Country Fair & Chicken Barbecue Craft Fair. The event will be held on Sept. 11 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the grounds of Good Samaritan Medical Center, 235 N. Pearl St., Brockton. The participation fee for craft vendors will be $35 for one space and $60 for two spaces. Vendor set up will take place from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. All vendors will be provided with a 10x10 outdoor space. October 2: $10,000 Raffle Drawing Fundraiser at Generations Function Hall, 81 Memorial Drive, Avon.  The proceeds will fund DALLSS Transitional Home for Homeless Women.  Ticket sales for the drawing are limited to 300 tickets.  Each $125 ticket includes admission for one and the chance to win $10,000.  The evening will include live entertainment (Oldies but Goodies Band), dancing, dinner and cash bar.  There will also be other gifts and prizes.  Cocktails at 7pm, dinner at 8pm, $10,000 drawing at 10pm.  You don't have to be present to win.  For tickets contact Louise or Danelle at 508-232-7747.

Crescent Credit Union Food Drive
May 24-July 31, Crescent Credit Union second annual summer food drive to benefit food pantries in the communities it serves.  Crescent branches will be accepting non-perishable food donations during regular business hours from credit union members and non-members alike.  Contributions will be distributed to those in need via St. Vincent de Paul Society in Brockton, Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen in Taunton, and Holy Family Parish in Rockland. Regional Transportation Plan Survey
Old Colony Planning Council, the regional planning agency for Abington, Avon, Bridgewater, Brockton, East Bridgewater, Easton, Halifax, Hanson, Kingston, Pembroke, Plymouth, Plympton, Stoughton, West Bridgewater and Whitman, is in the process of updating the Regional Transportation Plan. The Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) helps to determine how federal and state funding will be spent on transportation infrastructure and services in the next 20 years.
