taunton riverThe Metro South Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a regional water forum on Wednesday June 23 from 6:30 - 8:30 at the Shaw's Center in Brockton. Mayor Linda Balzotti, Alfredo Andres of Inema USA, and officials from various state and local water authorities will meet to discuss the future of regional water supply in the region.

Inema USA owns and operates the only desalination plant in New England on the banks of the Taunton River in the town of Dighton. The plant is licensed to supply water to communities and private users within Southeastern Massachusetts. Also on the agenda will be regional sewer capacity needs. Several local communities have identified the need for future sewer capacity with no clear plans approved for addressing the anticipated need.

Regional Transportation Plan Survey

Old Colony Planning Council, the regional planning agency for Abington, Avon, Bridgewater, Brockton, East Bridgewater, Easton, Halifax, Hanson, Kingston, Pembroke, Plymouth, Plympton, Stoughton, West Bridgewater and Whitman, is in the process of updating the Regional Transportation Plan.

The Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) helps to determine how federal and state funding will be spent on transportation infrastructure and services in the next 20 years. Sunday, June 20: Children's Museum in Easton 16th Annual Father's Day Road Race and Family Fun Walk. This year's race will include special prizes for the top three finishers in the men and women's divisions. The winners will enjoy delicious lobsters courtesy of local seafood favorites, Fresh Catch Seafood. This year's race will also introduce our newly redesigned course focused on improved safety and beautiful scenic views. The course includes routes through historic North Easton Village, Ames Long Pond in Stoughton, and returns to the Children's Museum for the finish. Sunday, June 27: On June 27, 2010, McGuiggan's Pub will be hosting the first annual McGuiggan's Pub 5k Road Race.  The race course, which will be USATF certified, will begin and end in Whitman Center.  All proceeds from this race will be donated to the Whitman Food pantry and the WHRHS athletic department to help offset student user fees.We are currently seeking sponsors for the race and will proudly display the name of all $100 donors on the back of the race t-shirts that all race participants will receive.  Please send your contributions to McGuiggan's Pub 5k, P.O. The funds collected will be used for Hamids Academy Afterschool Program and Summer Camp. Monday, July 19: 17th Annual OE+ Charity Golf Tournament to benefit the Brockton Area Arc at the Fall River Country Club, 4235 North Main Street, Fall River. Registration and contests will take place from 12-1pm with the shotgun start at 1:15pm, cocktails and 6pm, and dinner and awards at 6:45pm.  Cost per player is $175 which includes golf, cart, dinner, goodie bag and entry into the "skins" contest. A Players Package is available for $25 and includes entry into the chipping, putting, and 50/50 contests along with $50 of raffle tickets. $10,000 cash for a whole in one. The Brockton Area Arc works to provide information and direct services for individuals with disabilities and their families.

October 2: $10,000 Raffle Drawing Fundraiser at Generations Function Hall, 81 Memorial Drive, Avon.  The proceeds will fund DALLSS Transitional Home for Homeless Women.  Ticket sales for the drawing are limited to 300 tickets.  Each $125 ticket includes admission for one and the chance to win $10,000.  The evening will include live entertainment (Oldies but Goodies Band), dancing, dinner and cash bar.  There will also be other gifts and prizes.  Cocktails at 7pm, dinner at 8pm, $10,000 drawing at 10pm.  You don't have to be present to win.  For tickets contact Louise or Danelle at 508-232-7747.

Crescent Credit Union Food Drive
May 24-July 31, Crescent Credit Union second annual summer food drive to benefit food pantries in the communities it serves.  Crescent branches will be accepting non-perishable food donations during regular business hours from credit union members and non-members alike.  Contributions will be distributed to those in need via St. Vincent de Paul Society in Brockton, Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen in Taunton, and Holy Family Parish in Rockland.
