September 5-7: Municipal Environmental Development Inc will hold a 3 day festival for the Sisters of Jesus Crucified Convent at 261 Thatcher Street, Brockton (across from Massasoit Community College). There will be a horse shoe tournament on the 5th from 9am-7pm and on the 6th from 9am til conclusion. First place is $3,000. Monday, the 7th will be a picnic from 11am-7pm. 3,000-5,000 people are expected on Saturday and Sunday, and 6,000-10,000 are expected for the Labor Day Picnic. The picnic on the 7th to include Lithuanian foods, live bands and dancing, arts and crafts sale, face painting, beer and wine, bingo, texas hold'em, pony rides, antique car display and more. Funds raised will be dedicated to erecting memorials in the names of George Baldwin and four other distinguished professionals in other fields of expertise, all of whom have battled cancer. Pledge now through September 4-7: The Brockton Visiting Nurse Association is a Birdies for Charity organization sponsored by the Deutsche Bank Championship. Pledges are made of a penny or more to guess how many "birdies" will be made during the Deutsche Bank Championship by the PGA Tour Professionals over the Labor Day Weekend. If you guess the correct number of birdies, you will be eligible to win the Grand Prize of Two season tickets for the 2010 Red Sox at Fenway Park. Saturday, September 5: OnDeck Sports presents Softball Superstar Jennie Finch. Jennie will be speaking and performing a short demonstration prior the game between the Brockton Rox and Worcester Tornados at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, MA. Thursday, September 10: New England Sinai's Alzheimer's Caregiver Support Group presents "FYI: The New Massachusetts Guardianship Law." 4:00pm at the New England Sinai Hospital Alzheimer's Center. Saturday, September 12: Good Samaritan Medical Center is seeking vendors for its annual Craft Fair. Vendor participation fee is $35 for one space and $60 for two spaces. All vendors will be provided with a 10x10 outdoor space. Vendors are asked to bring their own table, chairs and canopy. Admission is free. The craft fair will offer a day of family fun with a chicken bbq, children's rides and a safety saturday tent. 235 North pearl Street. The event will support the center's Endowment Committee. Saturday, September 12: Low-cost Rabies Vaccine & Microchip Clinic. 10am-3pm No appointment necessary. Metro South Animal Care & Adoption Center (1300 W. Elm St. Ext, Brockton). All dogs & cats welcome. Please remember that for the safety of everyone involved, cats must be securely contained in carriers and dogs must be leashed and controlled. Saturdays, starting September 12 (Weather permitting): Dog Agillity for Fun! (Basic through Advanced) Metro South Animal Care & Adoption Center (1300 W. Elm St. Ext, Brockton). Agility provides fun and exercise for your dog in a controlled environment. Your dog will learn or improve skills such as jumping, running through tunnels and remaining comfortable standing on things that move. Your dog must have been through a basic obedience class and handlers should be able to control their dog. Your dog must be at least one (1) year old to participate. September 12 & September 13: Irish Festival at the Irish Cultural Centre of New England, 200 New Boston Drive, Canton. Celebrate the 19th Annual Irish Festival with the best of Irish music, food, dance and Irish Cultural Exhibits. Also featuring bands, story tellers, authors, and genealogy. September 12 & September 13: Bake Sale, 12pm-4pm. Metro South Animal Care & Adoption Center (1300 W. Elm St. Ext, Brockton). Got a craving for a fresh-baked whoopee pie, a chewy chocolate chip cookie or other sweet snack? Well then come by the shelter! Our team of skilled volunteers will be busy in their kitchens baking tasty treats for our Bake Sale.

Sunday, September 13: Brockton Summer Sunday in the Park (Postponed from August 30). At DW Field Park, 12pm-6pm, D.W. Field Park. Join us for an afternoon of food, entertainment, games, an obstacle course, hay rides, moonwalks and more.

Sunday, September 13: The Brockton Area Arc, serving serving children and adults with disabilities and their families, will hold their Seventeenth Annual "Walk in the Park for BAARC." Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Oak Street entrance to D.W. Field Park. The Walk begins at 11:00 a.m. The money raised through this fundraising event is used to subsidize the Family to Family Support Center, the Sunday Recreation Program, and the Arc-ED After School Program. Sunday, September 13: Stepping up Walkathon with Sinai to raise scholarships for Sinai's Adult Day Health Program. For every $55 raised, one scholarship can be awarded. Monday, September 14: Signature Healthcare Charity Golf Classic. Please join us at Willowbend Country Club in Mashpee, MA on September 14th for Signature Healthcare's annual golf tournament. Monday, September 14: 20th Anniversary Golf Tournament Caring for Kids Program- Brockton Visiting Nurse Association. Plan to join us at Thorny Lea Golf Club on September 14th for a day of golf and fun. Your participation will raise funds to provide care to children who are very fragile due to catastrophic disease processes and live in Southeastern Massachusetts. The Irish Cultural Centre's Academy Fall Term of Language, Music and Dance classes will begin in September. Classes being offered are Fiddle, Tin Whistle, Bodhran, Gaelic Singing, Step Dancing and Set Dancing for beginners to advance levels.

Classes meet once per week for 10-12 weeks in length for 60 to 90 minutes. Prices vary per class and are very reasonable. For more information, call 781-821-8291.
