Geoff BeckwithThe featured speaker will be Geoff Beckwith, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Municipal Association. In this post, Beckwith is the MMA's CEO as well as the President/CEO of the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association (MIIA), the MMA's municipal insurance program.

In this post, Beckwith is the MMA's CEO as well as the President/CEO of the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association (MIIA), the MMA's municipal insurance program. Prior to assuming his position as Executive Director of the MMA in February 1992, Beckwith was the Director of Work Environment, Environment, and Technology Policy at UMass Lowell, Member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, Campaign Manager of the Campaign for Massachusetts' Future, lecturer in Political Science at Emmanuel College and Assistant to the Massachusetts Commissioner of Commerce and Development. In addition, Beckwith served a three-year term as a member of the Advisory Council of the National League of Cities.

Events & Workshops


September 5-7: Municipal Environmental Development Inc will hold a 3 day festival for the Sisters of Jesus Crucified Convent at 261 Thatcher Street, Brockton (across from Massasoit Community College).  There will be a horse shoe tournament on the 5th from 9am-7pm and on the 6th from 9am til conclusion. First place is $3,000.  Monday, the 7th will be a picnic from 11am-7pm. 3,000-5,000 people are expected on Saturday and Sunday, and 6,000-10,000 are expected for the Labor Day Picnic.  The picnic on the 7th to include Lithuanian foods, live bands and dancing, arts and crafts sale, face painting, beer and wine, bingo, texas hold'em, pony rides, antique car display and more.  Funds raised will be dedicated to erecting memorials in the names of George Baldwin and four other distinguished professionals in other fields of expertise, all of whom have battled cancer. Agility provides fun and exercise for your dog in a controlled environment. Your dog will learn or improve skills such as jumping, running through tunnels and remaining comfortable standing on things that move. Your dog must have been through a basic obedience class and handlers should be able to control their dog. Your dog must be at least one (1) year old to participate. September 12 & September 13: Irish Festival at the Irish Cultural Centre of New England, 200 New Boston Drive, Canton. The Brockton Area Arc, serving serving children and adults with disabilities and their families, will hold their Seventeenth Annual "Walk in the Park for BAARC." Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Oak Street entrance to D.W. Field Park.  The Walk begins at 11:00 a.m. The money raised through this fundraising event is used to subsidize the Family to Family Support Center, the Sunday Recreation Program, and the Arc-ED After School Program. The Irish Cultural Centre's Academy Fall Term of Language, Music and Dance classes will begin in September.  Classes being offered are Fiddle, Tin Whistle, Bodhran, Gaelic Singing, Step Dancing and Set Dancing for beginners to advance levels.

New Brockton Information Boards Seeks Sponsors

bibSponsor a space on the new Brockton Information Boards to be placed at 6 locations across Brockton; Brockton Area Transit Intermodal Centre, the downtown commuter rail station, the downtown parking garage, the Metro South Chamber of Commerce/City Hall, the Brockton Historical Society and the Fuller Craft Museum. The boards contain a map of the city and important cultural attractions.

The intent of the boards is to provide an appealing and practical way to assist people in their navigation while showcasing local businesses, promoting tourism, and helping current residents realize the "hidden gems" within the city.
