Meet one of the 2012 Dan Bradley Fellows

 Emily Zushi

Emily Zushi (UC Davis - School of Law '13)
California Indian Legal Services

Emily Zushi, one of the 2012 Dan Bradley Scholarship recipients, has been working this summer at California Indian Legal Services

"Most of my work this summer is centered on drafting a model tribal probate code. Such a code can be infinitely valuable for California tribes who have little or no resources to draft a code themselves. It also allows tribal members to plan accordingly in their Indian wills. The final project will include not only a model probate code but a PowerPoint presentation informing tribes of their options when drafting a probate code under the American Indian Probate Reform Act. I am very thankful to LAAC and CILS for the opportunity to assist the Native American community and gain so much hands-on experience this summer."

Thank you for a wonderful 2012 Pathways to Justice Conference!
Pathways to Conference Logo

LAAC would like to thank the State Bar of California and the Administrative Office of the Courts as well as all of the panelists and attendees for a wonderful 2012 Pathways to Justice Conference.

Pathways to Justice was held at the University of California Hastings College of the Law on June 7 and 8. Over 300 people attended 40 panels during both days in addition to countless amenity groups.

We hope that everyone left the conference feeling refreshed, inspired, and better prepared for the great work that we all do!

LAAC Advocacy

LAAC continues to update our Current Advocacy page (http://laaconline.org/currentadvocacy) with the status of this session's bills.

LAAC recently submitted comments to the Judicial Council on the Strategic Evaluation Committee Report on the Administrative Office of the Courts. The 30 day public comment period ends July 22nd, and we encourage you and your organization to comment on how you work with your local courts or with the Administrative Office of the Courts. The report and supplemental information is available here:

If you'd like a template letter, sampling of talking points, or a copy of LAAC's letter, please contact Salena Copeland, LAAC's Directing Attorney, at scopeland@laaconline.org.
