Healing Service This Thursday, April 26th


The Holy Eucharist with Prayers for Healing will take place this Thursday, April 26th at noon in the chapel.  This simple service of prayer, Holy Communion, and the laying on of hands for those who desire it, is an extension of the ministry of the Pastoral Care Committee.  All are welcome.

 
April Food Bank - Volunteers Needed 

 

Volunteers are needed to staff the Food Bank Pantry each Saturday in April from 9:45 am to noon. Located at the United Reformed Church, 100 West Main Street in Somerville. Click here for driving directions. All are invited, including older children, to help interview clients, bag and distribute food. The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board. Confirmation Preparation and Adult Inquirer's Class

 

Classes will be held in Easter season to prepare those who are seeking confirmation on the Feast of Pentecost on Sundays at 9:00 am in the Parish House classroom.  All are welcome to attend these classes, which will be an overview of the riches of our faith and traditions.  Anyone seeking to be confirmed or received in the Episcopal Church should contact Mother Susan for more information. The weekly topics are as follows:

May    6      Holy Baptism

Grace's Soup Kitchen  - Volunteers Needed

The Chorus of Communities in Essex County will present its' 23rd Annual Spring Concert "Te Deum Laudamus"

on April 29th at 3:00 PM.

 

The ensemble is under the direction of our Director of Music, Richard Morgan and will be accompanied by Brian Preston Harlow (St. Luke's, Gladstone).  The concert will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, 581 Valley Road in Upper Montclair.  The program will include the Te Deum to Empress Marie Therese by Franz Joseph Haydn and the Te Deum by contemporary British composer, John Rutter. In addition to these two great works, the program will include choruses from Haydn's Creation and music by Brahms and Mendelssohn. Tickets are $15 ($12 for Students and Seniors).

Ten volunteers are needed for all the essential components of home construction including; foundations and masonry, framing, sheathing, roofing, and siding, wallboard, painting, trim and interior finishes, site work, trenching, grading, raking and seeding, clean-up and storage of materials, trash and recycling.

VBS Summer Camp June 25-28th 

 

Children ages 3 through rising 4th graders are welcome to join us as we "Journey to the Olympics:  It's a Golden Opportunity" from 9:30 am - 12:00noon.  Kids will learn, create, and have fun.  Join us for sports, games, music, snacks, Bible stories, and cool crafts!  The cost is $60 per

child (with a $150 cap per family).  Registration forms are available on the church website and in the Children's Library.  Space is limited.

Live webcast to address Episcopal Church General Convention 2012

 

 

General Convention 2012 of the Episcopal Church will be the topic of a live webcast on Wednesday, May 9 at 1 pm Eastern (noon Central, 11 am Mountain, 10 am Pacific, 9 am Alaska, 8 am Hawaii). The webcast, originating from Indianapolis, the site of this year's General Convention, can be accessed live or on demand at www.episcopalchurch.org.

 

Participants in the live webcast will be: Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, the Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori; President of the House of Deputies Bonnie Anderson; Executive Officer and Secretary of the General Convention, the Rev. Gregory Straub; and Bishop Catherine Waynick of the Diocese of Indianapolis, the host diocese.

General Convention 2012 (GC12) will be held July 5 - 12 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis. 

 

The Episcopal Church's General Convention is held every three years, and is the bicameral governing body of the Church. It is composed of the House of Bishops, with upwards of 200 active and retired bishops and the House of Deputies, with clergy and lay representatives elected from the 110 dioceses of the Church, at more than 800 members.
