Getting Personal
Traci Hoeting continues her journey towards health.
Traci Found Health Was
a Journey, Not a Race

"There are as many different

ways for people to lose weight and get in shape as there are people," says Wellness Center member Traci Hoeting, "but it all starts with two important things: deciding this is the change you want to make and knowing that it won't be easy."

Traci has been a member at the Wellness Center for more than a year and has been actively making positive lifestyle changes. She has lost more than 70 pounds, dropped 10 pants sizes, and has gone from taking nine medications to zero. Traci couldn't be happier with her decision to join the Wellness Center.

Q: What are the benefits of group cycling classes?

The benefits of group cycling are essentially the same as the benefits for other forms of aerobic exercise. The good news is that group cycling is low impact and functional, and it will make you a better cyclist when you ride a "real bike" outside. It is also possible to progress at your own pace because the rider controls the resistance; he or she chooses how much or how little resistance is on that bike.

Other added benefits:

  • Relieves Stress
  • Reduces health risks
  • Great fun/group camaraderie
  • Reduces blood pressure
  • Increases cardiac function
  • Reduces cholesterol
  • Burns mega calories
  • Makes great looking legs
  • Builds core strength
  • Increases energy
  • Endorphins, baby!

Interested in trying a group cycling class?

The Wellness Center will be offering a trial series of 30-minute, low-intensity group cycling classes in September. This format is great for beginner spinners. This 30-minute class will teach you the basic moves, form and lingo while also building base strength and endurance.

Sunrise Circuit Now Offered All Day Long!

If you've wandered into the free weight area recently, groupings of exercises on the walls may have caught your eye. Billed as "Sunrise Circuit" on the group exercise schedule, it is our newest fitness offering! This program is designed as a self-directed workout, with descriptions and pictures to help you along. Each week will feature a new offering, and a how-to will be posted with the exercises. As a bonus, a new aerobic conditioning program will be offered each week - look for these workouts on colored paper by the check-in station.

These workouts are designed to introduce you to new exercise program formats, as well as to give you a chance to try something fresh. Remember - it is important to vary your workouts on a regular basis so that your fitness level will continue to improve.

These workouts will be offered all summer long. If you have any questions about the proper execution of an exercise, how to modify the workout to match your personal fitness level, or about your exercise program in general, please see the fitness staff. We are here to help YOU!
