In March, I think we all look forward to donning our green on St. Patrick's Day and joining in the fun of all things Irish. One of the things we could all use is a little "luck o'the Irish". But luck is a funny thing; you can have hard luck or good luck or no luck at all. Some people don't believe in luck. Some people believe you make your own luck. It is probably okay to roll the dice and take a chance with lady luck once in awhile. But when it comes to the big things we probably shouldn't leave it all up to luck. This is especially true when it comes to our bigger investments... our car, our house, our health. We go for our physicals and have our children vaccinated. We buy insurance on our homes and cars for fire, flood and collision. What we have to lose is too great to ignore these important items. The same holds true for our vehicle maintenance. There are many things you can do for your car on a regular basis that will make it run better, get better gas mileage, and just plain last longer. These are small things relatively speaking, but in the end they may prevent bigger more costly repair bills. | Three little filters that make a BIG difference | |

OIL AND FILTER
Whether petroleum based or synthetic, clean oil lubricates your car's engine to reduce friction, prevents corrosion, improves sealing, and cools the engine. The working of the engine inevitably produces tiny particles from wear and tear. These bits, along with sooty deposits, circulate through your engine. The oil filter helps remove the particles and sludge to prevent expensive damage. The oil and filter should be changed at regular intervals to prevent clogging and damage. A very inexpensive thing to do that saves you in the long run.
ENGINE AIR FILTER
Did you know for every gallon of gas your car burns it uses 12,000 gallons of air? All of that air has to be filtered to keep your engine clean! If your air filter becomes too dirty or clogged, it allows dirt to pass into your engine. And it doesn't allow enough air through. This creates a "rich" mixture, too much gas being burned for the amount of air, which wastes gas and causes the engine to lose power. Keeping your filter fresh makes your engine more efficient which saves you money immediately!
FUEL FILTER
The median age of vehicles on the road today is OVER 10 years old! As cars age, they accumulate dirt and rust in the gas tank. If that dirt gets into the engine it can cause expensive damage. That is where the inexpensive fuel filter comes in. It filters out the bits and debris to keep your engine safe. But the filter must be kept clean or it will not allow enough fuel through to meet the demands at higher speeds or when accelerating resulting in poor gas mileage and poor performance. In some newer models the filter is part of the fuel pump and cannot be changed so be sure to have our trained technician inspect your fuel filter while you're here to be safe.
