HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
We are only 9 days from the official beginning of Winter and right in the middle of the Holiday Season! This will most certainly put most of us on the road traveling to spend time with family and friends. At Action Automotive, we want to be sure you travel safely so that your Holidays remain happy ones.
Here are a few tips and reminders to consider before you hit the road:
> Always check the weather forecast for your destination and along your route before you set out on your trip.
> The following website is for the State of Virginia and offers information concerning road conditions and route planning along with other important up to date information. http://www.highwayconditions.com/va/
Most of our neighboring states have the same site for their own state accessible from the VA site.
> Remember, in Virginia, you can dial 511 for up to date travel information as you encounter unforeseen issues.
> Items to consider packing in your car:
~Membership card if you are a member of a roadside assistance club
~A can of aerosol tire repair
~check your spare
~a flashlight - possibly the handcrank type so you do not have to be concerned about dead batteries
~a phone charger that plugs into the cigarette lighter
~a roll of duct tape, roll of paper towels, a quart of motor oil, and a gallon of distilled water - good for drinking or filling the radiator. (CAUTION: NEVER REMOVE A RADIATOR CAP WHEN THE ENGINE IS STILL HOT)
~a current list of emergency and family phone numbers
> Cold weather poses even more challenges. When traveling in the cold or to colder destinations consider packing a blanket and some snacks in case you become stranded-- especially if you will be on rural roads or long stretches of Interstate. When traveling with children this can be a real lifesaver!
> Always have warm shoes, gloves and a hat for all people traveling in case you have to wait for help or walk for help. (remember this when you are going somewhere dressed up for a party too! Nothing worse than walking through the snow in high heels!)
> If you happen to be lucky enough to be headed south...don't forget your sunscreen!!
As in all things, it is better to be prepared and never use it, than need it and not have it!
