Other things to check before summer travel include:

  • Replace wipers, before the storm
  • Registration, insurance card and inspection are up to date

Brake System Flush

What is a Brake System Flush?

Basically the Brake System Flush removes all of the old brake fluid in your system and replaces it with new fluid. Using special equipment, we use the OEM approved method of pressure flushing through the master cylinder, lines and out through the bleeder valves on each wheel.

Why should I flush the brake system?

Conventional brake fluid is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs water like a sponge. As brake fluid absorbs water it lowers the boiling point, causing your brakes to fade when stopping, and the moisture causes the fluid to become corrosive and can damage those very expensive Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) parts.

When should the brake system be flushed?

It is recommended that brake fluid be flushed every two years, or 30,000 miles. If the hydraulic brake system is opened for other repairs, it is also recommended to flush the system. Action has available fluid test strips that measure the brake fluid's ability to fight rust, corrosion and oxidation. The test strips will determine if the fluid is in need of replacement, or not.

The Brake System Flush

Here at Action, we replace all of your conventional DOT 3 brake fluid with a premium grade DOT 4 brake fluid. New DOT 4 brake fluid has a higher boiling point, and its inhibitor system provides excellent rust and corrosion protection to the braking system. Take advantage of our special Brake Fluid Flush today, available only to our newsletter and Internet customers.

D-I-Y Tips

DOT 3 and DOT 4 are glycol-based fluids. Never pour any other fluid, such as power steering fluid, transmission fluid or motor oil into the brake system, as those are petroleum based fluids which will cause damage to the internal seals, hoses, and possibly causing brake failure. Only add brake fluid from a sealed container, never use fluid from a opened container.

To Change, Or Not to Change!
When should I change my oil?

The service sticker on the windshield says to come back in 3 months, or 3,000 miles, for another oil change. But your oil light may not come on until 6,000 to 9,000 miles. And for those GM vehicles equipped with oil life monitors, the service sticker has todays date and mileage on it. When should I change my oil?

The short answer is: It depends on your driving habits.

Most of the driving in Hampton Roads falls into the "severe" conditions, frequent short trips, and stop and go traffic, although most of us consider this as normal. Most of today's newer vehicles will average 5,000 miles per oil change, for those using a fully synthetic oil, such as Mobil 1, oil change intervals may extend to 7,500 to 9,000 miles. If you use your Oil Life Monitor (OLM), the change oil light does not come on until you are near 0% oil life, when it does come on you should schedule to have your oil changed within 600 miles.

Make it last!

Your vehicle is an investment; performing preventive maintenance, as needed, on your vehicle will protect that investment for a long time. Don't look at it as just an oil change, during every service your vehicle is inspected by a professional technician, giving you the opportunity to catch small things before they become big things. Action is here for all of your vehicle needs.
