Stop pulling me!
What exactly is a wheel alignment? Basically, a wheel alignment consists of adjusting the angles of the wheels so that they are perpendicular to ground and parallel to one another. The benefits of these adjustments include; maximizes tire life, improved handling, and allows your vehicle to track straight and true when driving on a straight and level road.
A basic wheel alignment consists of adjusting the caster, camber, and toe-in. Caster, camber, and toe-in are terms used to describe the direction of the wheel in relation to the center-line of the vehicle. Camber is the angle of the wheel, measured in degrees, as viewed from the top. Caster measures the relationship of the left and right wheel to each other, whether farther forward or back from the other. Toe set describes the direction in which the front of the tire is pointed. If the tire is pointed inward, toward the center of the vehicle, it is referred to as "toed-in". If it pointed outward, it is referred to as "toed-out". Alignment problems can quickly wear down the tread of a tire and can cause a "pull" in one direction of the front end.
Do I need a 4-Wheel Alignment?
At Action, our computerized alignment machine is set up to measure all 4 wheels at the same time. By measuring all 4 wheels, we can determine if the vehicle is tracking straight and true. Rear wheels out of alignment have been known to cause a diagonal wear pattern on the tires. Most front wheel drive vehicles, and vehicles with independent rear suspensions have adjustable rear wheels and may require resetting during an alignment. Most trucks have straight axles and non-adjustable rear wheels, and therefore only require a front end alignment.
How often should I have an alignment on my vehicle?
An alignment is recommended every year, or every 12000 miles. If you are replacing your tires, an alignment is also recommended to ensure the maximum life of your new tires. Check out our Alignment Special, to save money and extend the life of your tires.
