Al Navas Using

Al Navas, The Sandal Woods' Video Cast and Blogger extraordinaire,

using a Hock Tools replacement blade for his Stanley #4 1/2 hand plane.

HOCK TOOLS would like to thank woodworking's blogger community. Just about every day these informative bloggers share their love of woodworking, tools, and woodshop processes, providing photos of their handiwork and the steps it took to create it.

Al Navas of Sandal Woods Fine Woodworking is one such blogger. A woodworker of many talents, prodigious intellect, and with a lot of professional experience to draw from, Al has turned to blogging to focus on woodworking by talking about tools, recommending projects and providing readers with solutions to everyday and more pithy shop problems.

As Al tells it, "I started the blog to help others and, in the process, to help me stay focused on my woodworking. I see the Internet as a medium in which someone can learn from my personal experiences, while at the same time I learn from my readers' experience!"

That was in the beginning. Al's blog has blossomed since September 18, 2007 into a web-based education, woodshop and tool-tip hub. In only a few short years his Sandal Woods blog became a virtual Woodworker Union Station!

Thousands of woodworkers visit Al's site seeking advice, reveling in  conversation with other woodworkers, and looking for guidance and inspiration related to their own shops and benchwork.

Sandal Woods provides the best of the Internet as a dynamic and well-spoken advocate for a beautiful practice. Al's passion and dedication give voice to woodworkers throughout woodworkerdom, including the toolmaker side of things, for which we at Hock Tools are eternally grateful.

Thank you, Al, and thank you to the entire woodworking blogger community that helps keep our lives busy.  (Ron's blogroll, including Sandal Woods, can be found at The Sharpening Blog at hocktools.wordpress.com.)

All you need is a drill, some clamps, glue, a knife to adjust the throat, sandpaper (or plane) to true the sole, and a means of sharpening the iron. Stanley #4

Ron's Heirloom Status

Stanley #4

At HOCK TOOLS we've found that this tough economy provides an opportunity to reach out and build self-confidence in our customers, and extra confidence in our products.

Replacement parts such as HOCK TOOLS'  Bench and Block Plane Blades provide a perfect opportunity to conserve on spending, which goes to the core of self reliance. And, replacement blades provide the perfect opportunity to keep worthy old tools tuned up and in use, ever-ready for quality replacement blades.

Ron gets a lot of satisfaction "teaching someone to fish," - which really means teaching someone to refurbish their well-worn planes; a valuable habit and satisfying process that is passed forward generation to generation.

You'd think developing independence where woodworking tools are concerned would reduce our sales, but at HOCK TOOLS, we get great feedback about it! People  feel good about their do-it-yourself refurbish on their planes, which builds competence and self-confidence, one plane at a time.

Ron talks about it all in his December 14, 2010 issue of The Sharpening Blog.  Whether you are a  hand-tool fanatic or a steadfast proponent of the blended shop, bring on a great feeling of satisfaction by keeping that old tool on the bench
