Clark Street Welcomes New Businesses in 2011

More than a dozen new businesses, including restaurants and retailers, set up shop on Clark Street in Lincoln Park in 2011. The Clark Street SSA works to welcome these businesses and develop relationships along the street. More investment typically begets occupancy; let's support our local, burgeoning establishments.

Contact Loren Dinneen or click on VisitClarkStreet.com for more information on these innovative programs.

Shovel!

Chicago Municipal Code sections 4-4-310 and 10-8-180 specifies that both homes and businesses must clear snow from sidewalks next to their property. The LPCC reminds its members to be a good neighbor and keep sidewalks clear for your customers and fellow business owners.

LEGISLATIVE NEWS

Remapping Chicago - An Update

The City of Chicago's Ward Remap process will change the face of Chicago for the next 10 years - at least. After each U.S. Census the city redraws the Ward maps to match the population change.

There are currently two - at least - maps being discussed in City Council. The LPCC strongly supports keeping Lincoln Park in only two wards to ensure more cohesive services for constituents and to match the character of the neighborhood. Alderman Michele Smith's website features both of the proposed maps as well as tips to ensure the process avoids litigation and services are provided in the manner that constituents have come to expect.

The LPCC recently sent a letter to Alderman Richard Mell - Council member in charge of leading the Ward Remap process - advocating in support of a map that maintains Lincoln Park's historic boundaries and unique character.

Tax Changes

In November 2011, the Cook County Board of Commissioners passed the County's fiscal year 2012
budget. Per the budget, tax rates and fees that are administered by the Cook County Department of Revenue were changed. In addition new taxes also were enacted as part of the budget, which the Department
of Revenue will begin to administer in 2012.

Chicago Business Workshops
