Happening #60 Begins Friday
This weekend, Happening #60 will be offered in the Diocese and held at Christ Church, Tulsa. Happening is a Christian experience presented by teenagers for senior high teenagers with the help of clergy and lay adult leadership.
The purpose of the Happening - A Christian Experience program is to be one of the instruments within the Anglican Tradition to renew the Christian Church in the power of the Holy Spirit, in order that the Church may respond more readily to its call to spread the Kingdom of God throughout the world.
Happening - A Christian Experience seeks to achieve this purpose by bringing young persons and adults to a fuller personal knowledge of and relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, and to a deeper level of commitment and apostleship.
- from Standards and Guidelines for conducting the weekend
During the Happening weekend (beginning Friday evening and continuing through Sunday afternoon) there are activities designed for fun and Christian community building among participants.
Throughout the weekend a series of talks are presented by youth and clergy to logically present the elements that define a mature profession of faith and the catechism process. The presentation of key talks by youth using personal life experiences is intended to offer Christ's message to attending Happeners on a level they can understand, and to answer many of the faith questions youth struggle with daily. Talks about church teachings and their importance in the lives of youth attending the weekend are presented by clergy in a fair and friendly manner. Each talk is a critical building block in the creation of the Happening message. The entire series of talks is given in a sequence that is intended to guide Happeners by opening an avenue of discussions to help them verbalize and internalize their faith questions in a safe environment and hopefully lead to a renewed or new relationship with Christ.
Please keep the Happening Staff and these Happeners in your prayers:
Will Berntson
Henry Bibelheimer
Haley Engle
Sydney Hinds

Labor Day Episcopal Peace Fellowship Young Adult Retreat
Living as Peacemakers in Un-peaceful Places
A Retreat for Young Adult Activists
August 31-September 3 - Please register before August 16th. Space is limited.
Join us Labor Day Weekend 2012 in Chicago for a peacemaking retreat sponsored by the Episcopal Peace Fellowship. The retreat weekend is led by the Rev. Becca Stevens, executive director of Magdalene & Thistle Farms and Episcopal chaplain at St. Augustine's Chapel, Vanderbilt University.
Participation priority will be given to all past and current participants of EPF's Young Adult Programs (Young Adult Presence at GC + Urban Pilgrimages), Episcopal Service Corps, Young Adult Service Corps and the Association of Episcopal Deacon's SEVEN program. Participants should be between the ages of 18 and 35.
The retreat will allow participants to deepen in spiritual growth and to reflect on their "journey with justice." The gathering will include time for visioning, conversation in an intimate group setting, prayer and social justice related "field trips" in the Chicago area. The goal is to provide a space in which we can hold one another accountable in living up to our dreams and ideals that are so ample when in a group but so daunting when on our own. We want to strengthen the leadership development that was nurtured in all of these Episcopal programs.
The participation fee of $100 includes accommodations and meals. The retreat begins Friday evening and ends Monday at noon. Funds are available to support those for whom costs are a barrier to participation. Please inquire as soon as possible if you are in need! The retreat will be held at the Cenacle Retreat Center, located in Chicago's vibrant Lincoln Park neighborhood.
The deadline to register is August 16th. Please e-mail your completed downloadable application to epfyaretreat@gmail.com. The $100 registration fee may be submitted online or via snail mail (check subject line: EPF YA Retreat) to Episcopal Peace Fellowship, 637 S. Dearborn St. , Chicago, IL 60605-1839. http://epfnational.org/labor-day-epf-young-adult-retreat/ |

Camp Sunday Scheduled
Camp Sunday is Sunday August 12th at St. Paul's. Because school starts for many of the kids the next day (the 13th) we decided to move the time up. The service will begin at 3:00 and the picnic at 4:00. Please make a note of the time change! Come and join in the fun and wear your favorite camp t-shirt!
Camp Wish List
Even though camp is over, we are still accepting miscellaneous supplies to re-stock the craft closet. Crafts are used for all activities and it is helpful to have the craft closet filled with a wide variety of items. Check in those miscellaneous drawers and closets around your house and see if you have any of the items requested from camp! If you do and would like to donate to the supply closet, we'd love to have them. Donations can be dropped off at the Diocesan Offices for delivery to camp.

Closing Prayer for August and Beginning of School Year
Dear Lord, as we begin this new school year, we gather
once again as your community of believers.
We thank you for the energy and the spirit that you renewed
in us through the summer months.
We thank you for the time to enjoy our family and
friends and to reflect on what is important in our lives.
Let this year be marked by enthusiasm and love so that,
with the inspiration of your Spirit, we may continue
to grow in our faith.
Help us to fulfill Your hope for us with honest intentions
and works of faith.
Let us be gentle with ourselves and bring laughter, joy
and love to others.
We ask this in your name. Amen. |
