VBS Around the Diocese
This week has been very busy for several congregations as they offered VBS.
Trinity, Tulsa, offered Finding God in Diversity in the morning and Theater Camp in the afternoon.
The tee shirt was tie-dyed using crushed ice so the children could see how God's love is spread.
Children from Happy Hands Education Center in Broken Arrow were guests on Wednesday. This facility is for children who are hearing impaired. The children taught the group two new songs using sign language!
St. Andrew's, Lawton, was a "sweet" place to be as they offered Wild Willey and the Chocolate Factory. On the right, children make peacock masks to symbolize Violet Beauregard and her prideful nature!
Candy treats covered the walls and hung from the ceilings as they learned the Oompa Loompa songs.
There were several series of tug of war and the night ended under the water compliments of several sprinklers.
All Saints', McAlester, was invaded by many Jedi hopefuls and Padwans as they attended the Star Wars Academy. From the cantana where the children learne d to play songs from the Star Wars movies, to a worm hole, to stepping onto a battle ship, these children were learning about the whole armor of God. The battle ship had seats and lighted stations for many of the children to "work" from, and others manned the moveable laser cannons.
Left, working on a rosary necklace.
Below, Mother Stephanie and other Jedi Masters review the battle plans for the evening.
St. Paul's Cathedral was the place to learn about creation and caring for God's world. Below, the children made their ocean, complete with fish!
Above, children listen to Godly Play lesson and watch as the light is extinguished but sees what happens to the smoke as it rises!
A third group of children were upstairs having music and learning new songs about creation. |

Whole Creation Community
E-waste Recycling Event a Success
A big thanks goes out to all of the church communities that participated in Whole Creation Community's first ever E-waste Recycling Event. The event was held this past Saturday in the parking lot at St. Paul's Cathedral. Many churches held their own drives bringing what they collected to the Cathedral on Saturday. Churches from the Diocese as well as other faith communities and denominations joined us in this event.
CDR Global Inc. serviced our event. They accepted a variety of e-waste which they will disassemble, resell or re-market, recycle, or have smelted. All hard drives are destroyed. The event was a great success. Together we filled a Penske trailer full of what would otherwise end up in our garbage containers, in our closets, under our beds, or stuck in some hidden corner of our garages.
Look for more opportunities to participate in similar events. One thing to put on your calendar is the Whole Creation Fair coming in November. We will invite vendors from all over Oklahoma who will share how they care for and nurture God's creation. It is a great learning opportunity.

Camp Sunday Scheduled
Camp Sunday is Sunday August 12th at St. Paul's. Because school starts for many of the kids the next day (the 13th) we decided to move the time up. The service will begin at 2:00 and the picnic at 3:00. Please make a note of the time change! Come and join in the fun and wear your favorite camp t-shirt!
Camp Wish List
Even though camp is over, we are still accepting miscellaneous supplies to re-stock the craft closet. Crafts are used for all activities and it is helpful to have the craft closet filled with a wide variety of items. Check in those miscellaneous drawers and closets around your house and see if you have any of the items requested from camp! If you do and would like to donate to the supply closet, we'd love to have them. Donations can be dropped off at the Diocesan Offices for delivery to camp.

Safeguarding God's Children Training

Closing Prayer for July
God of eternal light, though the heat of summer may be too much sometimes, we thank you for the gift of summer, especially summer camp, fresh food from the garden, swimming, trips to grandparents' houses, and vacations with families. Bless the rest of this summer, that it, too, may be filled with fun and rest, to the glory of Your name. Amen. |
