President Obama Recognizes Work of St. John's, Tulsa, Youth

President's award St. John's received the President's volunteer Service Award recognizing the 252 hours of service logged by St. John's Youth at the Day Center for the Homeless. The President noted the devotion to service and "for doing all you can to shape a better tomorrow for our great Nation." St. John's Youth and its supporters prepare and serve the evening meal once a month at the Day Center. In addition, the youth collect household goods and clothing for the clients of the shelter and spend time during summer and spring break to help at the Day Center. A Walk in the Woods - St. Crispin's Conference Center

Where has the time gone?! It doesn't seem like it has already been a year since my Dad and I packed up a U-Haul and drove from Lubbock, Texas to St. Crispin's! Moving here was a big step for me, I left everyone and everything I knew to come complete an internship under Mike and Joanne at St. Crispin's. Some of you know that I also worked for them at Vista Camps in Ingram, Texas. My reasoning behind taking this internship at St. Crispin's rather than another one closer to home or starting graduate school was that if I was going to learn about working at a camp/conference center, I wanted to learn from the best!

This year has taught me so much, not only about working in the camp and conference industry, but also about life, love, and myself. I would like to take this opportunity to say "Goodbye!" to all of you that I've met during my time here, and I hope that our paths will cross again someday! Each and every one of you welcomed me with open arms, and I am so blessed to know all of you! I will be very lucky to find an environment as friendly and family-like as the one I currently have the

 privilege of working in.

On August 3rd, I will be packing up again and heading to Cleburne, Texas, just south of Fort Worth. On the 6th I will start a new job as a County Extension Agent for Family & Consumer Sciences with Texas Agrilife Extension Service. This job involves a lot of working within the community for health awareness, involvement, and education. It directly relates to my degree from Texas Tech University, and is an opportunity I have been praying about, sometimes with you, for awhile. Thank you all so much for the love and  support that you've provided me with!

Blessings to you all,

Gracie

camp 2012.1Camp Sunday Scheduled

Camp Sunday is Sunday August 12th at St. Paul's. Because school starts for many of the kids the next day (the 13th) we decided to move the time up. The service will begin at 2:00 and the picnic at 3:00. Please make a note of the time change! Come and join in the fun and wear your favorite camp t-shirt!

Camp Wish List

Even though camp is over, we are still accepting miscellaneous supplies to re-stock the craft closet. Crafts are used for all activities and it is helpful to have the craft closet filled with a wide variety of items. Check in those miscellaneous drawers and closets around your house and see if you have any of the items requested from camp! If you do and would like to donate to the supply closet, we'd love to have them. Donations can be dropped off at the Diocesan Offices for delivery to camp.

Safeguarding God's Children Training

  Safeguarding

Safeguarding is required every 4 years for clergy, vestry, treasurers, bishop's committee members, those who work with children - Sunday School teachers, youth ministers, choir directors, and sextons, those who serve on vestry or Bishop's Committees, and anyone with a key to a congregation. This would be a great time to get trained before the beginning of your program year.

The Lord's Prayer Study for Youth

Lord's prayer

Here are some resources you might look at if you are wanting to do a study of the Lord's Payer with your Youth:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHZiPWxpEvM  Lord's prayer in sign language

"Becoming Jesus' Prayer: Transforming Your Life Through The Lord's Prayer". The books is published by Pilgrim Press and the cost is only

$8 dollars.

About the book: Becoming Jesus' Prayer invites readers to take a new look at the Lord's Prayer--words so familiar to Christians, yet often muttered without thinking. Each chapter features a story, theological reflection, discussion questions, guidelines for weekly prayer at home and corporate prayer, and hymn suggestions. It also includes a leader's guide, seven sessions for groups, five appendices that include the Lord's Prayer in hymns--as litany and music--a Lord's Prayer bibliography, and a prayer bibliography. Can be used in individual or group settings.

Kerygma has a 6-week lesson titled, Lord, Teach us to Pray. More information can be founds here: http://www.kerygma.com/courses/ntstudies.html

There is a great DVD based study by Paraclete Press with study guide -- good for youth and adults. There is a simple study guide that goes with it. The teacher is Walter Wangerin. I think this might work for you:

Closing Prayer for July

 summer
God of eternal light, though the heat of summer may be too much sometimes, we thank you for the gift of summer, especially summer camp, fresh food from the garden, swimming, trips to grandparents' houses, and vacations with families. Bless the rest of this summer, that it, too, may be filled with fun and rest, to the glory of Your name. Amen.
