St. Mary's Episcopal School Receives Grant from the Kirkpatrick Family Fund
St. Mary's Episcopal School recently received a grant in the amount of $7,000 to assist in preparing for the first 7th grade class to be offered at the school. The funds will also assist in developing the middle school division's history department.
"We were overjoyed to receive such a generous gift from the Kirkpatrick Family Fund", says Nancy Hetherington, Head of School. "It not only allows us to provided well-needed furnishings for the classroom, but also speaks to the foundation's belief in our mission of offering quality academic programs in an environment fostering respect for faith, family, other and self."
The school, established in 1977, opened its doors to the Middle School Division in 2011, offering 6th grade in 2011-12; and scheduled to open 7th grade in 2012-13 followed by 8th grade in 2013-14. Many students, who had completed their early childhood and elementary education at the school, are now on track to finish their middle school experience in the same school system.
"The rationale for adding a middle school division allows us to provide the exciting opportunity to continue the Episcopal tradition of academic excellence and the outstanding enrichment opportunities," Hetherington said. "By expanding our school through eighth grade, we are able to advance our mission of preparing children spiritually, intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically."
Hetherington went on to explain that research shows that the continuous grade span model, pre-school through 8th grade, that students are higher achieving and out-perform their peers who are in separate middle schools. It is also found that there is a greater sense of community, stronger relationships between students, teachers and parents, fewer discipline problems, more student centered environment, and more opportunities for students to serve as leaders. |

Closing Prayer for June
A Summer Blessing
May you walk with God This summer
In whatever you do
Wherever you go
Walking with God means... Walking with honesty
And with courage,
Walking with love
And respect
And concern for the feelings of others
May you talk to God This summer
And every day and
In every situation
Talking with God means... Praying words of praise
For the
beauty of creation Saying prayers of thanks
For friends and good times,
Asking God's help
In all your decisions
Expressing sorrow
When you have failed
May you talk with God Every day Amen |
