Talks covered Identity, Questions, Owned Faith, Christian Story, Discipleship, Vocation, and Community. There were opportunities for worship, community, small group, and games.
A special thanks to these individuals for their help in making this event such a success: Laura Beth Woods, Rector, Ashley Haggard, Vocare Lay Director, Tim and Kirsten Baker, Blake Woods, Jaron and Grace Hill, Laura and Wiley Ammons, Alison McKeever, Heather Blagg, and Tim Sean Youmans.

St. Mary's Students Celebrate Mardi Gras
Students dance and march with hand-crafted masks during Mardi Gras parade

Students began creating their Mardi Gras masks more than two weeks ago during art class, in preparation for this week's Mardi Gras celebration.
A long-time tradition of St. Mary's School, Mardi Gras features students of all ages who pay tribute to this time of year in order to usher in the beginning of the Lenten season, which follows the day after Mardi Gras. The celebration refers to events of the traditional carnivals, beginning on or after Epiphany and culminates on the day before Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras (French for "Fat Tuesday") is also a time when people attempt to eat up all the fats and goodies - one last fling for merriment before the seriousness of the Lenten season.
Students dress in festive attire, wear bright colors of purple, gold and green. The colors represent justice (purple) faith (green) and power (gold). They also wear colorful beads and carry or wear their hand-crafted masks while parading down the school's halls to jazz-type music.

Following the parade, students enjoy the traditional "King's Cake" in each classroom. The student that finds the baby in their piece of cake then becomes the king or queen for the day. Teachers then remind the students the importance of the celebration which marks the ending of the Epiphany season and calls Christians to move into the holy time of the Lenten season. |

Lent Madness - Without the Basketball!
Forward Movement has found a great idea to help us learn about the Holy Men and Holy Women of our church. It's called Lent Madness. Not only do you learn about these "saints", you get to vote on who moves up to the title of "Golden Halo." On February 25, David Oakerhater will be up against Martin of Porres. Check it out and VOTE!
Invitation to the Observance of a Holy Lent Madness
Dear People of God: The first Christians observed with great devotion the days of our Lord's passion and resurrection, and it became the custom of the Church to prepare for them by a season of penitence, fasting, and Lent Madness. This season of Lent provided a time in which converts to the faith were prepared for Holy Baptism and taught to vote for their favorite saints by logging onto www.lentmadness.org. It was also a time when those who, because of notorious sins in refusing to engage in Lent Madness, had been separated from the body of the faithful were reconciled by penitence and forgiveness, and restored to the fellowship of the Church - but only after proving their worth by purchasing a Lent Madness mug. Thereby, the whole congregation was put in mind of the message of pardon and absolution set forth in the Gospel of our Savior, and of the need which all Christians continually have to renew their repentance and faith by participating in Lent Madness.
I invite you, therefore, in the name of the Church, the Supreme Executive Committee, and our "celebrity bloggers," to the observance of a holy Lent Madness, by self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, voting in a timely fashion, and self-denial; and by reading and meditating on God's holy Lent Madness. And, to make a right beginning of repentance, and as a mark of our mortal nature, let us now kneel before the Lord and our computer, only one of which is our maker and redeemer. |

Remember his may be the last document they read about you, their loved one.
In thanksgiving to God for the gifts of life given in baptism; and for the many blessings God has showered upon me; and in thanksgiving to God for the gifts of faith and hope through Jesus Christ; and in thanks giving to God for the gifts of nurture and love through the Church where we have shared faith and fellowship; I now commend my loved ones to grow in this same faith; being true to their own baptisms., knowing that God will continue to provide for them in their lifetimes; I encourage them to place their faith and trust in our Lord and Savior.
