A Workshop with Sister Ellie Finlay
Saturday, August 20th
Sister Ellie is a solitary nun in the Anglican tradition and has headed the St. John's Center For Spiritual Formation in Tulsa for the past 15 years. The Center offers interfaith meditation instruction, individual spiritual direction, meditation therapy and seminars promoting intercultural understanding.
She will introduce us to ways of applying meditative principles throughout the day as well as methods for formal sitting practice. This will be held at St,. Paul's Cathedral, OKC, on Saturday, August 20, at 9:30 and end at 2:00, with a brownbag lunch. Sister Ellie will be compensated by gift and you will find more about the meditative principle of Dana (generosity in oneself) on the registration sheet, as well as details of the day's program. They will be available at the front desk, or email [email protected] to receive one electronically or call Joyce at 229-0430
Sister Ellie served as a Spiritual Director to clergy in Capetown during the perilous years of South Africa's emergence from Apartheid. To spend time with this extraordinary woman is an experience not to be missed. |

Kairos Prison Ministry
I recently heard a sermon in which the priest said that one way to evangelize was to listen to someone and to develop a relationship with that person. Prison systems are funded in such a way that they can do little more than warehouse the people who have been locked away for what they did. They rely on volunteers to minister to these people in hopes of making a difference in their lives. Kairos is one of these ministries and is modeled after Cursillo. It starts with a 3 day weekend of talks, posters, food, and most of all discussion. Kairos team members are called to listen and love, not to judge or change. We are advocates of God's love not prisoners or prisons. When you listen and love the Holy Spirit can work miracles beyond our imagination. As good as the week end is what makes Kairos a powerful ministry is that it does not stop there. We have continued contact which reinforces the recognition of God's love. As Christians we believe that lives can and will be changed. Those who work in prison ministry can witness to the fact that God has the power to change the lives of people for whom society has given up, and He uses it.
Preparations are being made for Kairos #10 at Davis Correctional Facility in Holdenville. If you feel the call to minister to the people that society has forgotten or would just like to see if God does what he says, or would just like more information, feel free to contact me or anyone associated with Kairos. If you cannot participate your prayers will be greatly appreciated.

Safeguarding God's Children Training Opportunities
We have been working hard to provide Safeguarding training sessions so that all clergy, including deacons, would have an opportunity to be trained. It is our intention that all clergy and deacons complete Safeguarding God's Children training by the end of the year. In order to help you out, we have scheduled the following training opportunities:
September 20 Diocesan Center, OKC - 10 a.m.
October 13 St. Andrew's, Stillwater - 10 a.m.
November 19 St. Basil's, Tahlequah - 10 a.m.
December 5 St. Luke's, Chickasha - 5:30 p.m.
These trainings should take about 3 hours long.
Safeguarding God's Children is required of all clergy and deacons who are active in ministry within the diocese, including clergy that serve as supply. Attendance at one of these trainings is mandatory. Safeguarding must be retaken every 5 years for clergy.
These trainings are open to all in people of the Diocese. Even if you have had safeguarding in the past, you must recertify every 5 years to keep current. You can download the registration form at:

Closing - Prayer for August
"God, you send rains in season. It is a season of need in Oklahoma. Send more rain to that parched land and more again across all the thirsty southern states. Find a small and willing cloud sitting bored over some vacant part of the Caribbean, and give it a push toward Oklahoma. Make a Hurricane, perhaps, not strong enough to destroy, but filled with warmed moisture and send it North. We ask you for rain. Let the drought unite many millions to ask you for help. We trust in you. You made the world to need the waters of heaven. You made the world to need the waters of life. You are the source of rain. We ask you. Let it rain. In Jesus name."
