Oil on Linen

"My references come from an array of rarely connected times, people or places. What I love is the romance of very rich, lavish and heavily ornamented classical styles of dress and architecture. These moments for me hopscotch across centuries. This painting brings to mind the Edwardian period and long summer afternoons and garden parties. The rich lace detail in the little girls dress was definitely a treat to paint."

Information

Why do you varnish oil paintings?

Varnish provides a protective coating that resists scuffing and preserves the paint color of your original artwork for generations. Oil paint dries through the process of oxidation, and artists have to wait 6-12 months to allow the painting to completely dry prior to varnishing. Valerie uses Liquitex Soluvar Archival Removable varnish. The varnish will not yellow, and it will preserve the beauty of your original art. If you have any questions, email the studio.
