Greetings!
The year started out very busy for me. Robyn and I traveled East looking for horses for our clients. We were disappointed that we weren't able to find horses for Joanne Horwitz or Joyce Yamamoto, but we will keep looking. We did however find a wonderful horse in Georgia for Madi Holtzman. His name is Ringwood Murphy and he's a big bay Irish bred horse. He's very kind and has been showing at the training and preliminary levels. As you will discover from reading this newsletter, there are many, many new faces and horses at the barn and we are very happy to welcome them to our Mill Creek family.
Spring is here and the horse show season is in full swing. Even if you are not planning to compete, I strongly encourage you to go watch, help other riders or volunteer for the show committee-it's an incredible learning experience. Many shows are close by & upcoming shows are listed in this newsletter. The Mill Creek Show will be June 5; I hope to see all of you there.
Once again we have a full Summer Day Camp Program planned, which begins June 21 this year. Details and enrollment forms are now available on the website. I'm looking forward to another full Summer at Mill Creek!
I hope you enjoy this second edition of our email newsletter. Please note that it contains several features that either didn't fit into our print newsletter or occured after the print version went to press.
Sincerely,
Cory Walkey

Update on Mette & Her Clients
Are the Pan Am Games in her future?
Mette has already had an extremely busy year. She went on a buying trip to Denmark with Anne Solbraekke and came home with another lovely horse for Anne named Rico, a chestnut Warmblood gelding with a beautiful flaxen mane and tail. Rico is an elegant, advanced level Dressage horse.
While in Denmark, the Finally Partners, LLC went crazy and bought a fabulous 3-year-old gelding named Regent for Mette to develop. She hopes to qualify him for the 4-year-old championships in Chicago.
PAN AM GAMES?
The 2nd weekend in April, Mette competed in the CDI 3* Dressage Festival at Rancho Murieta; an international level show that will help Mette in her goal of qualifying for the Pan Am games in Guadalajara in October this year. Riding her impressive chestnut, Finally, they placed 1st in Prix St. Georges and just missed first by 2/10 of a point in Intermediare I. This should qualify them for the national championships at Gladstone in September, where the Pan American team will be selected.

Clinic Report from Sylvia Wong
On January 9, 2011, Sylvia and Loren attended a clinic with Juan Munoz Diaz at Dove Hollow Dressage in Encinitas, CA.
| |
Sylvia and Lauren working with Juan |
Juan represented Spain at the World Equestrian Games in Lexington , KY this past September on his Andalusian stallion Fuego XII.
Juan has trained Fuego since he was a 4 year old and at the WEG in Kentucky, Juan was rewarded for his dedication and hard work by scoring 81.45% and fifth place in a spectacular freestyle performance. He enjoyed talking about this special horse - his riding, training and horse care. I was honored to ride with him and felt both challenged and encouraged. I will remember the key words - "forward", "more collection" and most of all "sit!" He demanded lots of lateral work interspersed with riding forward (and half halt to come back) to improve straightness, collection and submission. He demonstrated this clearly when he rode Loren and showed the effectiveness of his seat.
Loren was instantly recognized by his former groom as soon as he stepped off the trailer. Flo Brown, the owner of Dove Hollow and former owner of Loren came out especially to see him and told me stories of his younger days! Loren entertained his home town fans and even showed his Spanish walk - with Juan exclaiming in surprise "and he's not even a Spanish horse!"
Huge thanks to Lindsay Smith for her support and prep for this event. |

Blankets! Blankets! Blankets!
A Message from Cory
Spring is here so once again it's time to send your winter blankets off to be cleaned and repaired and stored in your garage until next October. We like to use Diana Dover (818-674-8691) for cleaning and repair.
This summer, Cory would like to see all the horses in a stable sheet to keep their coats clean, flat and shiny. Also, please plan ahead and consider using a mesh fly sheet (pictured right) for your horse in August and September.
For all blankets, please be sure to write your last name in at least 2 inch letters on the inside chest flap.
Cory thanks you and your horses will thank you!
