Greetings!
First of all, I'd like to welcome you to the first Mill Creek email newsletter.Thank you for signing up. I hope you will enjoy it!
So where did 2010 go? I started my year traveling with friends to Egypt and cruising the Nile. We also stayed at an eco-lodge at a desert oasis. Fabulous trip!
March started our show season and a very busy time with lots of dressage and event shows throughout the spring and summer.
In July, Lisa a I were off to Sweden for a 10 day trip to watch Falsterbo International Horse Show. The Swedes are such fun. They even had a rabbit jumping competition. I recommend going for a few days if you ever get a chance!
In August, I traveled with Mette to the National Finals for dressage. She had a great show, placing 9th and 10th in the nation. Two weeks later, I was off to Georgia with Lulu and Jordyn for the Eventing Championships where the girls outdid themselves, placing 3rd and 4th in the nation at the Novice level.
In October, Beth Cannon and I were off to the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky. It had great riding, great horses and fun trade fair. We had a super time!
All in all it was a wonderful year. Lots of travel, friends, and horses. Who could ask for more? Thank you to everyone for helping to make 2010 such a great time. I wish you and your families all the best for the holidays and the New Year.
Sincerely,
Cory Walkey Mill Creek Equestrian Center (310) 455-1116 |

Meet the Trainer: Joe McKinley
Trainer Profile Series Joe McKinley was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and has been riding since the age of seven. He started working with Teresa Korol at the age of 10 and worked with her to compete through the Preliminary Level until leaving for college in 2001. He attended the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and graduated in 2005 with a B.S. degree. Upon returning from school, he began riding with Teresa again and working with her as an assistant. He has shown several horses for clients of Dayna Lynn Pugh and has schooled other clients' horses up through intermediate level. Joe has a reputation for getting the job done with tact, finesse and a lovely quiet manner. Joe's riding technique encourages the horses to like and respect him. Joe has a very interesting non-equestrian history and is a very well-rounded individual. While at academy, he played on the rugby team for four years and traveled around the world, from the Far East to the Mediterranean. After attending the academy, he worked as third officer on an oil tanker from Louisiana to Florida and also worked as a captain of tug and crew boats on the San Francisco Bay. He still maintains his "unlimited, any oceans" Coast Guard license and occasionally works as captain of yachts on the bay.
Joe won the Open Novice division at Galway in November on Mister Brightside and he placed third in the Adult Amateur Novice Rider division in Area VI for 2010. Cory is very pleased to have a rider like Joe to school our jumping horses, and help train our event riders. Those of you who have the opportunity to work with Joe will benefit from his knowledge.
