Positive Signs of Growth in California

Dear ,

Now that the first quarter of 2012 has closed, positive reports are coming in from the CA SBDCs.  According to the recent completed annual report, the California Small Business Development Centers are reporting substantial small business growth in 2011. The program has helped entrepreneurs create 5,900 new jobs and retain an additional 3,200 jobs in California.

Every year, through its 38 individual centers in the state, the California SBDC program provides free one-on-one consulting to more than 27,500 entrepreneurs and low-cost training to 38,000 of California's 1.3 million business owners.

According to the annual report, one key growth area in 2011 was a 55 percent increase in new jobs created in California over 2010. Capital investments also increased to more than $211 million, up from $129.3 million in 2010, resulting in a nearly 40 percent increase in loans and equity for small business clients.

Understanding the Small Business Health Care Tax Credit

Who is eligible for the tax credit? Small businesses that pay at least 50% of their employees' health insurance premiums and have less than 25 full-time workers with average annual wages below $50,000 are eligible for tax credits up of to 35% of their healthcare costs. This provision is designed to give small employers some financial relief from high healthcare costs, and more than four million small businesses nationwide qualified for this credit in 2010.
