Dear ,

We continue to see positive signs in the area of economic growth.  While it is not at a pace we are accustom to from the 1990-2010 period, it is positive growth nonetheless.  The latest data on small business lending (Thomas Reuters Small Business Lending Index) is at its highest level since December 2007.  Unfortunately, this is an election year, which means the economic confidence will be attacked regularly by candidates from both sides, defending their policies against their opponents.  Hopefully, calmer business minds will prevail.

Our local SBDC offices continue to provide workshops and one-on-one business consulting services to meet the needs of growing businesses.  It is a frequent misperception that the SBDC program only helps start-up businesses.  In fact, the vast majority of our clients are existing businesses who are seeking technical assistance in their expansion plans.   Other business owners simply come for an "annual business check-up" to help identify problems before they arise.  Contact your local SBDC office to learn more.

CED's Economic Forecast Conference in Review

Keli Anthis, Director

Northeastern Small Business Development Center

at Shasta College

On January 12 our team from the Northeastern Small Business Development Center at Shasta College had the opportunity to attend the CED's 12th Annual Economic Forecast Conference at Gold Country Casino in Oroville.  We left that morning before the sun came up and traveled for nearly two hours for what was to be one of the most informative and professional seminars we have ever attended.  Every facet of the event, from the high caliber schedule of presenters to the overall coordination, was stellar!  Our team expressed an overwhelming consensus regarding the valuable information we received and felt very strongly that our time was well spent.  Most importantly, we are confident there will be a direct benefit towards our efforts to serve small businesses in our communities.

These are just a few of the comments from our team:

"Thank you so much for inviting me to attend the economic forecast conference in Oroville today.  I have attended several of these conferences over the years, but this was the best I have ever attended; the quality of the speakers was outstanding... I thought the emphasis on business survival employing unique methods through collaborative and out of the box thinking was helpful and there were some good suggestions in the breakout sessions."  Jayne Murnane, Business Consultant

"Thank you for the opportunity to attend the economic conference today.  It was really very helpful to see where the national, state and local economies have been historically and where they are projected to be in the future.  It was one of the best economic conferences I have attended and the information gleaned will be helpful in assisting clients. It was also a very interesting story about Pittsburgh's economic revival and the partnership with the private sector to get things done!"  Mary Richmond, Business Consultant

"The information I took from this event was incredibly valuable.  I am looking forward in using my new found knowledge as a benefit to our SBDC clients.  I also found the breakout session to be insightful and the network contacts I made will sure to be a assets to our clients as well." Michelle Slade, SBDC Marketing Consultant

Thank you to the CED for continuing to improve a historically excellent event.  We look forward to attending again next year!
