   CALIFORNIA SMALL BUSINESS DAY

Dear ,

On June 6th, California small business organizations and legislators came together for the annual California Small Business Day in Sacramento. The day began with speaker Dr. Winslow Sargeant from the US Small Business Administration addressing attendees with, "Buy California Small Business First".Followed by an awards luncheon, which 75 legislators came together to present small business owners within their districts with small business of the year awards.

The importance of the California Small Business Day is to highlight the fact that small businesses are vital to our state's economy.  Small business owners account for nearly 90% of the net new job creation in California while also accounting for 75% of the gross state product. These small businesses being honored range from hardware stores, food establishments, to biotechnology.

After the awards luncheon, special breakout sessions were hosted by the California Black Chamber of Commerce and the California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The sessions focused on government & private sector contracting and solutions to the high cost of doing business, including fees, fines & taxes.

Other guest speakers included, Assembly speaker John A. Perez, secretary of the State and Consumer Services Agency Anna Caballero, and Jerome Horton from the State Board of Equalization.

California Small Business Day was created by Assembly Resolution 57 in 2000. Volunteer small business organizations throughout the state come together to host this annual event.

New SBA mobile application brings enhanced access to information and

resources

WASHINGTON - Smart phone users interested in starting or growing a small business can now find helpful resources at their fingertips via a new SBA mobile application from the U.S. Small Business Administration.

"Increasingly, smart phones are the vehicle through which Americans access information. This is certainly true of many entrepreneurs and small business owners and this new application ensures they will have access to SBA's resources and programs - literally at their fingertips," said SBA Administrator Karen G. Mills. "Greater mobility fits with the new user-focused SBA.gov launched recently, and is another example of the steps we are taking to do a better job of connecting entrepreneurs and small business owners with the tools to help them start or grow their businesses and create jobs.

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Business Matchmaking, the leading non-profit procurement initiative providing small businesses with face to face opportunities to meet government and major corporate buyers, has announced a state-wide mentoring program focusing on commercial information utilizing the resources of Dun & Bradstreet.

The program includes ten training workshops throughout California presented by the state's Small Business Development Centers in cooperation with the Governor's Office of Economic Development and is a pilot for a national series of activities later this year.
