Happy New Year!

We haven't blown away, yet! With winds reaching 90 MPH it hasn't been fun. Full blood work was done a few days ago on Acey (she came in with bullets in her head). Acey was having panic attacks. It is now believed that it is because she is scared of the wind!

As we start the New Year, we would like to hug each and every one of you! Because of your generosity, we were able to save yet another life already this year. You can read Peaches' story below. Your generosity and outpouring of love has been amazing, bless your hearts!  I smiled as I read each Christmas card. Many of your cards included pictures of your four legged family members, THANK YOU.

    Here are some updates:

FreedomHome

   Freedom, in our last November newsletter, was adopted right before Christmas. He is doing GREAT. Thank you Susan and Robert!

  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ChiliBeanHome
   Chili Bean, who found himself in a kill facility last year, was doctored back to health. He was also adopted right before Christmas. He is doing GREAT. Thank you Patti & Les!
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

FunnyTrixieHOME

   Funny (now Fannie) and Trixie who came to Pet Pals along with Joker in April of last year are doing great in their new home. Thank you Fritzen's!

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
   Hunter (now Tony) came to Pet Pals in 2003 from an owner who was going to shoot him. He was adopted, returned two years later and then adopted again. He is doing GREAT. Thank you Charlie & Kathie!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

   Captain, collie, was adopted ELEVEN years ago. "He has a slight loss of hearing and a bone spur on his lower back but is otherwise healthy. He loves winter." Thank you Jeff & Laurie!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EagleHOME
   Eagle was brought to Pet Pals in July of 2009. Not being socialized or trained, Eagle was a mess with a number of issues. Any city/county pound or rescue would have killed him. (Yes, some rescues kill and even some no-kill rescues kill.) We actually had to use a catch pole on him the first evening he came here. Good grief his teeth are big when he's wanting to eat you! LOL He's one of MANY that Pet Pals rehabilitated and adopted into wonderful homes. Thank you Julianne, Jeff & Ayden!
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

   Happy, black labrador, was found under a railroad trestle in Nebraska, taken in by a no-kill rescue, advertised on TV, money was collected for her veterinary fees and then she was going to be killed! Happy was brought to Pet Pals in June of 2004. She was adopted by a WONDERFUL couple who have stayed in touch with us for years. Her Christmas update reads:  "A sad note, Happy is nearly deaf but otherwise very healthy. I will adapt so she stays safe." Thank you Francie! We are sorry to read about her health issues.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  Cupcake (now Sasha), deaf English Springer Spaniel, was brought to Pet Pals in 2008. "Please keep Sasha in your prayers. At the vet yesterday they discovered 2 areas on her that had some growth and crusty skin. She is having surgery on the 23rd to remove and send to pathologist". Prayers being sent to Karen & Jim. Thank you for caring so much for this sweetheart!
  There are hundreds and hundreds of updates. If I continue with the pictures and updates, it will be 2013!
What will the New Year bring? Each day is a gift from above. We never know, but we will continue to save lives.
Thank you again for your continued support. Have a VERY Happy New Year!
The Needle
Needle
Most of you are thinking this article is about killing pets, but you are wrong! From our very first newsletter dated March 2001 we have stressed the importance of having ID tags on your pets. Here is your chance to get a free ID tag and have fun at the same time!
     Hidden somewhere in this newsletter is a picture of a needle like the one pictured with this article. Find the needle, be the first one to e-mail us with the location and we will send you an ID tag so your pet can get home and avoid a needle!
    The last contest winner was Maura VonMosch in Colorado!
Congratulations Maura!
(December's hidden needle was in the picture of Freedom nestled by his head.)
     There is another hidden needle. Good luck everyone!
HumphreyHumphrey
Once again, Humphrey's head looks like a buffalo. This is the third time this has happened since coming to Pet Pals from a kill facility. It was first thought he was bitten by a spider and the next time by a bee. This time we are pretty sure it has to do with changing his treats.
After consulting with our awesome veterinarian, he is on medications and recovering. Humphrey has had a number of health issues including surgery to remove a lump on the side of his head.  He is such a love, we'll do whatever it takes to help him.
Due to donations, Humphrey is getting the care and love that he needs. He THANKS YOU and would love to shake hands with you!
Help for Harry
Harry Update
This is Harry! He was adopted from Pet Pals in March of 2010. Harry has health issues. In Oct 2011 he lost control of using his hind quarters.
I have purchased a memory bed (which he just loves), male pee bands and we're giving him LOTS of love. Harry will be 10 years old in March.
With spring/summer just around the corner, I was thinking  he might like to go outside. If there is anybody out there who has a dog wheelchair for a 100lb dog for a fair price, please e-mail Linda at Pet Pals.
Thank You,
Christine Knittle
Pet Rabbits, Oh My!
CoyotePorsche
Porsche on the right was adopted from Pet Pals in 2009 and Coyote on the left in 2011. They were adopted by one of the sweetest people we have ever met. As per our written contract, if a pet has to be re-homed, it is to be returned to Pet Pals. You aren't going to believe this but it's true. We found out a "rescue" gal has been butchering and eating rabbits.... Oh MY!
Due to VERY serious allergies requiring an emergency hospital visit, both rabbits are back up for adoption. Thank you Dorothy for returning them. We hope your son gets well.
Peaches
Peaches' owner had been in touch with us for over a month. She said she could no longer take care of nine-year old Peaches and was going to "put her to sleep". We really didn't think she was serious and since we had so many pets already, we said keep her a little longer and we'll find a place for her.
It wasn't until we were told she might get run over in the street because she is deaf that we got worried. When asked if she could be tethered or kept on a leash for the short time she's outside and we were told, "No, she cannot be tethered because she might pee on the sidewalk." then we really panicked! WHAT? She might pee on the sidewalk so let her get hit by a car.... Are you kidding me? Okay, we'll take Peaches.
After arriving at Pet Pals, Peaches was taken to our veterinarian and had to have rotten teeth removed.  She feels SO much better.
E-mailing a previous double adopter and telling her about Peaches, we received the good news on our answering machine.... "Get Peaches ready for transport, we will adopt her!" HURRAH, Peaches is heading to Oregon!  Thank you Mischelle, Jan, Benny & Shirley. You are all AWESOME!
Just how many people would adopt a nine-year old deaf dog? And to those of you who think we are in this for the money, we are not asking for an adoption donation. We are just SO thankful that Peaches will have the home she deserves! You have NO idea how much we appreciate your donations. We simply could not save ones like Peaches without your help.
