Happy Halloween!
Once again, it's time to update our supporters. We have been very busy. Last week new windows were finally installed after a hail storm shattered the old ones. Okay, imagine ..... It's the end of warm weather and flies want to come inside to stay warm. Of course, they have now multiplied by the droves to keep their species alive. Six windows are now removed, doors are wide open. You know where I'm going with this! Oh my, a house FULL of flies is not fun. Spray fly killer is not good for little furkids to breath so the flyswatter is the weapon of choice. Have you seen what happens when you pick up a flyswatter around abused little dogs? Some are so scared they proceed to pee/poo wherever they stand. Most of the little ones are still traumatized from strangers hammering and making so much noise. One little puppy mill dog pooped and bit me when I tried to pick him up. He's been here for THREE years. Most people don't have a clue what mental damage has been done to puppy mills dogs. Many pets never recover. With shattered window shutters removed, new windows installed, walls scrubbed from the flies and most of the painting done inside and out, it's time to tackle the floors. I moved furniture out of the family room into the kitchen and formal living room. Tiles are ripped up and it looks like a tornado hit here. What better time for company to come for a visit! They had not been here in at least ten years and are not fond of pets. I'm sure we made an impression and they may return again in 20 years instead of waiting 10! LOL Oh Well, life is good! No Tricks Only Treats!
Many of you will remember three-legged Ellie. She came in with mange and was a mess both physically and mentally. Ellie's life was very bad. She was first chained to a tree, burned when her owner's trailer caught fire, and then tossed into a kennel where an infection almost took her life but instead she lost her leg. Being tossed back into a kennel where she was going crazy and the mange was taking its toll, she was then brought to Pet Pals after a relative stepped forward.
This is what Pet Pals is all about, helping the underdog! It doesn't matter if a pet has physical or mental damage or it's hard to place and going to be here for years, we are one of the very few no kill shelters that are actually NO kill. (How can a Rescue claim to be no kill and kill pets? I'll save my thoughts for another issue!)
Well, look at Ellie a little over a year later. She has been helping dig potatoes! As you can see in the picture, she LOVES her Daddy. I'm sure Ellie thinks the women in the home are alright also! THANK YOU Jan, Mischelle & Daddy Benny!

The Needle!
Most of you are thinking this article is about killing pets, but you are wrong! From our very first newsletter dated March 2001 we have stressed the importance of having ID tags on your pets. Here is your chance to get a free ID tag and have fun at the same time!
Hidden somewhere in this newsletter is a picture of a needle like the one pictured with this article. Find the needle, be the first one to e-mail us with the location and we will send you an ID tag so your pet can get home and avoid a needle! Here's what happened last month: Hey there Linda, the needle is poking Annie in the butt :o)) Again pass it on if I have beat everybody. Christine Congrats, Christine! It was discussed adding chocolate to the package with the ID tag... I ate the chocolate! :-0) Keep ID tags on your pets and NEVER leave them outside unattended. WHY anyone would leave their pets outside when nobody is home is STUPID and DANGEROUS!!
This month especially when pets can get scared of the ghosts and goblins. Tag Up!

I want to share with you one of many telephone calls which came in yesterday. The caller was upset that his two-year old goldfish was swimming upside down. He said when he holds it upright it seems okay. What should he do? I gave him the name of a veterinarian in his area! EVERY life counts, we wish him luck saving his friend.
