CFC Employees and Board Donate Over $4,300 to Local Charities

Over $4,300 was collected by the employees and Board members of Carolina Farm Credit who participated in a charity contribution throughout 2011. Each of the Carolina Farm Credit 36 service centers submitted a local charity choice and four charities were selected through a random drawing to divide the donations.

The following groups will each receive donations of $1,076.25 from Carolina Farm Credit:

 

Richmond County Hospice - Ellerbe, NC
Meals on Wheels - Hillsborough, NC

Ashe Outreach Ministries - Jefferson, NC

American Red Cross of Surry County - Pilot Mountain, NC

Director Vickie Smitherman Featured in "Dedicated to Dairy" Video 
Carolina Farm Credit Director Vickie Smitherman is featured on the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association's (SUDIA) website. Keepin' It Rural Recipe Contest Winners
Larry Elder of Charlotte, NC is the soup, salad & bread category winner in the "Keepin' It Rural" Cooking Contest. His winning entry is Farmer's Market Lentil Salad with Baby Greens, which earned him a $750 prize. Click here for the winning recipes. Below are all the winners:

Young Farmer and Rancher of the Year
Congratulations to Jamie and Amy Ager, of Fairview, NC for being named The 2011 Young Farmer and Rancher of the Year by the North Carolina Farm Bureau.

The Achievement Award recognizes farmers between 18 and 35 years of age who are involved in NCFB's Young Farmers and Ranchers Program and whose farm practices are judged to be the most outstanding in production efficiency, innovation, improvement and environmental stewardship.

The Agers now move on to the national competition, which will be awarded during the organization's annual meeting January 2012, in Honolulu, Hawaii.
 
Social Media Workshop for Farmers 
Carolina Farm Stewardship Association (CFSA) is offering Social Media for Farmers workshops designed especially to help farmers reach new customers and expand their farm businesses. Dates and locations are listed below. All workshops are limited to 25 participants to allow for hands-on, one-on-one training.  Click here for more information and to register.
 

Cost: $10 (includes lunch)
