NEBRASKA CITY DISPOSES OF __ POUNDS OF UNNEEDED MEDS SATURDAMeds Banner

 

40People from the Nebraska City community disposed of 40#'s of expired and unneeded prescription drugs on Saturday, April 16th at the city parking lot.   These are medications that may have otherwise gotten into the wrong hands or the local water supply.   

 

SpeciOfficer Danaal thanks to  Nebraska City Police Sergeant Dana Schebaum and Officer Jason Holman, who led the take-back effort in Nebraska City, as well as  volunteers Kent Blum, Kermit Holmes and Doc Gigstand from the Nebraska City Elks Chapter who assisted the officers with the event.  Thanks also to U-Save Pharmacy for providing the signs for the event.

 

ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY TO DISPOSE OF UNWANTED MEDICATIONS IS AVAILABLE ON SATURDAY, APRIL 30, FROM 10:00 TO 1:00 AT THE SYRACUSE FAIRGROUNDS, LED BY THE OTOE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE.   

MIDDLE SCHOOL RECEIVES GRANT FOR AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

The Nebraska City Middle School is among grant recipients for before and after-school programs through the federal  21st Century Community Learning Centers.

Too much pain reliever can harm children

When you open your medicine cabinet to treat your child's pain or fever, do you know much medication is too much?

 

Half of liver failures in the United States are caused by accidental overdoses, many of them from pain relievers.

 

Share Love-Weaver said she's used her share of medicine to treat her three young children's earaches and fevers.

 

"One of my children has a tendency with any viral illness to run a real high fever," Love-Weaver said.

 

Fever is the body's natural response, heating itself up to kill a virus or bacteria.

 

"Not all fevers should be treated," said Dr. Michele Casey, a primary care physician with Fall Pointe Medical Group in Raleigh.
