"I know kids abuse prescription drugs here every day," said Nebraska City Police Sergeant Dana Schebaum. Schebaum alerted Rotarians March 30 to a dramatic increase in young people abusing prescription drugs and over-the counter medicines. She said the problem has become more common in Nebraska City in the last three years.The local trend is in line with national data, which shows that the most prevalent drug abuse is currently prescriptions, Schebaum said. She warned that possessing someone else's prescription drugs can mean a felony conviction.

INSTRUMENTAL JAZZ CONCERT
On Thursday, April 7 at 7:30pm, the Rob Scheps/Greg Gisbert Quintet will perform an instrumental jazz concert at the Nebraska City Public High School Auditorium. The quintet includes Rob Scheps on tenor saxophone and flute, Greg Gisbert on trumpet and flugelhorn, Roger Wilder on piano, Bob Bowman on bass and Ryan Lee on drums. The concert is free, open to the public and appropriate for all ages.

DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS FOR JUNE JAM
Partners for Otoe County is pleased to announce it is accepting scholarship applications for the June Jam Leadership Conference through April 15th.
June Jam is a leadership conference offered each summer by Region V Systems at Southeast Community College for students who will be entering grades 7-12. Partners for Otoe County will be awarding up to 8 scholarships for youth actively involved in student drug organizations in Otoe County - PRiDE, PARTY and STOP - and have pledged to lead a drug-free lifestyle. Developing youth leadership is one of P4OC's top priorities, and thanks to a SPF SIG grant from the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, we will be able to pay $25 of the $75 registration fee for eight of the many deserving students who are active in STOP, PRiDE or PARTY.
