Strides for Olivia Update

uncle samOlivia Sherman is the daughter of Vanessa and Scott Sherman.  Vanessa is our Juvenile Diversion Coordinator.  Olivia was born 6-weeks premature and has Cystic Fibrosis.  Olivia just turned 5 months old yesterday.  She has proved to be a fighter - she is now 10 # 1 oz and is no longer dependent on tube feedings.  Due to her increase risk for lung infections, she will be starting new breathing treatments to help her breath a little easier.  She is very active and alert, loves smiling and giggling at her big sister, Addison.  Check out Strides for Olivia on Facebook.

Market to Market Relay Race

Saturday, October 9, is the Market To Market Relay Race from
Omaha's Old Market to Lincoln's Haymarket.  Stacie Higgins, our TeamMates Coordinator, has been training to run this race in honor of Olivia Sherman. Stacie is one member of the seven member women's team, The Real Housewives of Otoe County.  Other members of this team include Karen Barr, Karla Smith, Tesha Bender, Julie Christensen, Janna Peterson and Megan Wollenburg.  This race will take approximately 12 hours to complete with each team member running three times throughout the day.  Check out the 'housewives' on Facebook.  To date, we have donated $250 to Strides for Olivia and will have another donation this weekend.  Everyone is encouraged to contribute to help defray medical costs incurred for the Sherman family.

SAMHSA/CSAP YOUTUBE VIDEO

SAMHSA/CSAP is proud to announce that by this Friday, October 1, we anticipate that all the completed underage drinking prevention videos produced through the State/Territory Videos project will be available on SAMHSA's YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/SAMHSA. As additional videos are completed through 2013, they too will be added to the channel.

By uploading these videos, SAMHSA/CSAP aims not only to celebrate the incredible success of this initiative, but also to help raise awareness about each States' efforts to prevent underage drinking.

In other exciting news, in mid-October we expect to send out the first e-newsletter about the State/Territory Videos project. The quarterly e-newsletter will share news and information about the project, highlight what States and Territories are doing with their videos, and include insight and tips from ICF Macro Studio Group producers as well as previous participants-such as you-to assist others in making their videos as dynamic and effective as possible.

Please be on the lookout for both of these exciting new developments in the SAMHSA/CSAP State/Territory Videos project.

 Sincerely,

Emily Novick, M.P.P.
