"The Life Of an Athlete" Kickoff in Otoe County October 4th
Partners for Otoe County is pleased to announce that John Underwood, President and Founder of the American Athletic Institute, will be coming to Nebraska on October 4th.  Mr. Underwood is a former NCAA All-American, International level distance runner and World Masters Champion.  He has coached and advised more than two dozen Olympians.  The American Athletic Institute initiated "The Life of an Athlete" in 2002 for male and female adolescent athletes, coaches, parents, athletic directors and communities.  The five-phase program is used successfully in school and community athletic programs all over the country. The schedule for Mr. Underwood's visit on Monday, October 4th is as follows:
   7:00-8:00     Breakfast with area medical professionals in NC
   9:08-9:58     Assembly of student athletes at Palmyra High School
   11:00-1:00   Presentation to coaches, athletic trainers, team
                      captains at Peru State College
   2:25-3:28     Assembly of student athletes at Syracuse High
   5:30-6:30     Presentation for student athletes, parents and the
                      pubic at Nebraska City High School
Save the date and time for the presentation that fits best for you for a very powerful, impactful and highly informative workshop for maximizing the performance of your athlete.

John Underwood will be in Lincoln on October 5th at the Nebraska Coaches Association/Nebraska School Athletics Association facility from 9:30 to 11:30, St. Elizabeth's statewide heath teleconferencing from 1:00 to 5:00, and Southeast High School from 7:30 to 8:30.  The afternoon session will be available by teleconference at the Southeast District Health Department in Auburn.     

Mr. Underwood will return to Nebraska on March 14 and 15, 2011 to conduct a two-day workshop that will help coaches implement the Life of an Athlete in their school or community athletic programs.   For more information visit www.aaisport.org.
More Honors for Ben Rice

AAIBenjamin Rice has been selected to receive yet another honor for his efforts to reduce underage drinking in Nebraska.

Project Extra Mile has selected Ben to receive the Youth Individual Award at Project Extra Mile's 14th Annual Recognition Dinner scheduled for September 23 at Champion's Run in Omaha.  Project Extra Mile Recognition Awards are presented to individuals and organizations for outstanding personal achievements in the persuit of their mission to create a community consensus that clearly states underage alcohol use is illegal, unhealthy and unacceptable.

 

Benjamin Rice, son of Robert and Christine Rice of Nebraska City, is a 2010 Graduate of Nebraska City High School.  He is enrolled to be a student at Peru State College this fall.  Ben serves as a member of the Partners for Otoe County Board of Directors as well as many other school, community and church activities.

Five Youth Paintings Sold in Silent Auction Correction: 
Five murals created by students participating in the 2008 Summer Art Camp were auctioned by Partners for Otoe County, netting $250 for next summer's art camp. 

Jo Vasa purchased one of the five paintings and that listing wasvolunteering omitted from last week's newsletter.
