We are so pleased to announce that Katy Bovick will be the artist leading our 2010 Summer Art Camp, being held July 26-30 at the Kimmel-Harding-Nelson Center for the Arts in Nebraska City.  A session for children who will be entering grades 1-3 will take place from 9:30 to 11:30 and the session for children entering grades 4-6 will take place from 12;30 to 2:30.  Holly Carr has submitted a mini-grant application to the Nebraska Arts Council to defray half the costs of the art camp this year.     Call Laurie at 873-6343 or email her at p4ocnews@gmail.com for registration forms or more information. 

 On Sunday, May 23rd, 84 golfers met at Table Creek to enjoy a day of golfing for TeamMates.  Over $5,600 was raised for the local TeamMates Chapter.  The TeamMates Board would like to thank our Corporate Sponsor, Cargill, for their generous donation of 320 steaks!!  In addition, over 35 business and individuals made donations for sponsorships and pin prizes.  The real winner of the day was the TeamMates Mentoring Matches as these local raised dollars will stay in our community to help TeamMates kids reach their full potential.  It was a great day to celebrate the magic of mentoring and we look forward to Hitting 'Em Straight for TeamMates in 2011!

 The 4-H/Army Child and Youth Services are offering a free babysitting clinic at the Morton-James Library on Saturday, June 19, from 1-5 p.m.  Participants will learn how to care for children, solve problems, keep children safe and happy, talk with parents and adults, make responsible decisions and handle emergencies.  This free clinic is available for ages 11-18.  Sign-up by contacting Michele by leaving a message with name, age and phone number at (402) 444-4637 or email mmyer2@unl.edu. In our journey to comprehensive violence prevention, St. Mary's Community Hospital and Partners for Otoe County's Healthy Youth and Families Committee is seeking the expertise of the Prevention Institute of Oakland, CA.  Prevention Institute is a non-profit national center dedicated to improving community health.  They have trained thousands of professionals in cutting-edge prevention research including violence prevention.

 

Prevention Institute is scheduled to be in Nebraska City on June 15th to facilitate a Healthy Youth and Families meeting.  During their visit, they will synthesize existing Otoe County data and leader input, prioritize risk and resilience factors, and prioritize strategies around program and community engagement.  This process will serve as tool to guide the committee to a prevention strategy to address Otoe County existing violence issues.
