Upgrading Our Operating System
| |
My last newsletter talked about the re-launch of NVC Mediation and how Ike Lasater and I are entering a new phase for how we deliver and expand our trainings. One big part of our efforts has been the restructuring of the training manual for our yearlong intensive programs.
To focus and refine the NVC Mediation curriculum, we have sought the expertise of professional educators and curriculum designers, as well as people with significant NVC experience. Ike and I have also been listening carefully to feedback from past and current program participants. Here is a sampling of what we have learned:
- First-time students have different needs than returning students. We therefore are revamping the curriculum to include a more explicit role for returning students-both during and between the intensives.
- We need to do right by all our students and give them the best possible learning experience by supporting different learning styles. With that in mind, we will be fine-tuning our efforts to strike a balance between presentation and practice. We also will be using more concrete examples and illustrations to enhance the learning process.
- One of our most important goals is to make the yearlong program more accessible.
Currently, new students can only begin their NVC intensives in January. This means that some people who are excited about NVC Mediation must wait up to a year to start in our programs. Clearly, we need more entry points into the program in order to allow more students to enroll and at a time that works best for them.
Do you have recommendations for how we might improve our programs? Have you wrestled with any similar challenges in your own work? I welcome your feedback.
I also welcome you to enroll in one of the upcoming NVC Mediation intensives.
Best regards, John Kinyon
