Journey to Better Pathways Fun-Run/Walk more successful than ever before!
 | | They're off! |
The 15th Annual Pathways Fun-Run/Walk held May 5 raised more than $10,000 to support Pathways students' participation in creative programs that use the outdoors, sports and the arts for education and therapy. Wow! A fitting success for this wonderful family fun event, which for 15 years has brought together the Pathways community and exercise enthusiasts on the first Saturday in May.

All ages enjoy the race.

Pathways is outstanding in special education in the Washington area because our students receive more than individualized instruction and therapy. They also benefit from creative, innovative and inspiring programs in everything from horseback riding, to arts residencies, basketball, and environmental education. These programs bring professional sports coaches, visual artists, equestrians, choreographers, poets, musicians and more to work with our students. Every one of these professionals has the qualifications and skills to work with young people with special needs, and as a result our Pathways students are encouraged on a journey of self-discovery and growing confidence and hope for their future.
For many years, a community of people who know the value of these programs for our students has come together to ensure their continuity. The Northwood Church congregation generously provides the location for the Fun Run registration and post-race festivities. Many in the congregation turn out for the event, as do Pathways staff and families and friends from the business community and neighborhood.

Tania Dubeau and Joy Spain with recognition plaque
|
This year was special, since it gave opportunity to acknowledge the leadership of Joy Spain, Pathways Academic Coordinator. Joy has led the Fun Run effort every year since its beginning, tirelessly working to organize and oversee the whole event. Her positive energy and coordinating skills are the reasons why the Fun Run is a success and enjoyable for all.
Similarly with the Fun Run from its beginning has been Integrated Network Strategies, Inc. headed by Craig Hoover. For years INS has reliably provided Pathways with our computer systems; no easy task since we are a multi-site and networked organization. INS is just as stellar and solid in its sponsorship of the Fun Run.
As in the past 14 years, the 15th Annual Fun Run attracted runners, walkers, and spectators to appreciate the mild spring weather and beauty of Sligo Creek Park. The raffle and goodie bags added to the excitement. Children, dogs, teens and runners of all ages mingled afterwards good-naturedly, enjoying each other and the knowledge that they had helped to support the exceptional outdoor, physical fitness and arts programs of The Pathways Schools.
