Happy 2011... I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday and I'd like to wish everyone a happy, healthy, and prosperous new year!

It's back to business here at the Chamber, with a new Board President, Exec Committee, and a few new Board Members as well. Ron Clyborne, First Vice-President for the past 4 years, is our new 2011 President, replacing Jim Hills who stepped down after 4 years as President. Thank you Jim, under your guidance we've made great strides over the last 4 years. Jim will remain on the Board as the new PR/Marketing Board Representative. Joining Ron are Bob Rinehart -- 1st Vice-President, Jack Loos -- 2nd Vice-President, and returning treasurer Chris Fleck. New board members for 2011 are: Valerie Claypool of Keller Williams Realty; Erin Eddins of Stancorp Investment Advisors; and Juliana Van Buskirk of Edward Jones Investments. We'd like to welcome our new board members, and say thank you to all our continuing Board Members for their hard work and dedication to the Edmonds Chamber. (You can see a complete listing of the 2011 Edmonds Chamber of Commerce Board Members below in the left hand column of this newsletter.)

We've also made a few changes here in the Chamber office. Carolyn LaFave, Membership and Communications Manager for the past year will be our new PR & Marketing Manager. Carolyn will be handling the Chamber advertising, marketing, website, communications, database, and Log Cabin Visitors Center and volunteers. I will be taking over the role of Membership Services and the Ambassadors, as well as covering my current duties. We are expecting a smooth transition into these new roles. Please feel free to call either one of us for any of your Chamber questions, concerns, or needs -- we are both here to assist you any way we can.

We're counting down the days to the 2011 Chamber Banquet. This year's theme is "Let's Fiesta" and will be held at the Edmonds Yacht Club on Friday, January 28th from 6:30 - 10:30 pm. Invitations went out ealier this week. We hope to see many of you there.

We are also counting down the days before the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce 2011 Preferred Business Directory goes to print. Being listed in the directory is one of your many Chamber benefits, along with being able to advertise in it. There is still advertising space available but you'll need to act fast -- contact Brad Hoare at the Journal Media Group to reserve your advertising space. You also need to act fast to ensure your directory listing is correct. Please confirm your contact info is correct by visiting our website and checking our member database. Please contact Carolyn by Wednesday, January 12th if you have corrections to your listing. At this time our online directory does not list the primary contact or email address, we will be revising this in 2011 so that the primary contact will show with a link to their email -- if you are a new rep for your company please contact us so we can get your information listed properly. Also, if your email address was previously with verizon.net and has changed to frontier.com please let us know so we can make that change before the directory is printed and mailed out.

As you can see... we're moving full-steam ahead with another productive year here at the Chamber. Keep your eyes and ears open so you don't miss out on any of this year's developments.

FYI... due to current weather forecasts,
please be advised that the Chamber office and meeting schedule is determined by the Edmonds School District snow schedule, i.e., if the School District is on a late schedule all Chamber morning meetings will be rescheduled, and if the Edmonds School District is CLOSED, the Chamber Office and Visitor's Center will be closed as well.

If you have an entrepreneurial spirit, are about to start a new business, or have already started one, this discussion forum could be just the place you want to be. Join entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs as we hear from a local business owner who recently started a business and discuss issues relating to small business start-ups.

 

425 Launch, a program of the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce, seeks to strengthen our community by promoting and fostering entrepreneurship. By providing a forum for aspiring and existing entrepreneurs to exchange ideas and experiences, we can improve communication and strengthen entrepreneurship in the community.

 

Future discussions will take place every other month and will include hearing from entrepreneurs in our community and discussing topics of interest such as choosing the right business, navigating business licensing issues, funding possibilities, cash flow, social networking, technology, marketing, and other issues determined by the group.
