From Your Executive Director |

It's October and we are very excited about what this month brings... the first ever Edmonds International Film Festival! This event will take place October 20 - 24th right here in downtown Edmonds. The Edmonds Chamber is proud to be the Presenting Sponsor of this new venture and we hope you will all come down and check-out all the happenings.
On Monday, October 4th, the Chamber will host a Candidates' Forum. Also this month is the annual Halloween Trick-or-Treat Night brought to you by the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Edmonds Merchant's Association, and the Journal Media Group. Thousands of costumed kids and their parents fill the streets and sidewalks of downtown Edmonds for a fun-filled family event you won't want to miss.
The Chamber also has some important Board of Directors business to attend to in October... board nominations. The Board of Directors endorsed a slate of nominees that was presented to them at their annual retreat on Wednesday, September 22nd.The slate will be accepted at the October 21st Board Meeting. Any petitions for additional endorsements to the Board of Directors need to be received at the Chamber office by Wednesday, October 6th. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me. (You can see the slate in the Board Nominations article below)
We are fast approaching the end of the 2010. There has been a tremendous amount of work done this year; a new website, many successfull events behind us; and exciting new events to come. Even though the year is winding down, we still have many things to accomplish before we close the door on 2010. Stay tuned... and we'll keep you posted!

Edmonds Proposition 1
In 2007 a State law was passed allowing city or county governments to create local transportation benefit districts and impose a local vehicle registration fee to fund local transportation projects. The City of Edmonds formed a Transportation Benefit District(TBD) and passed a $20 fee that the State Department of Licensing began collecting for license renewals in 2009. Any fee above the initial $20 requires voter approval. The TBD has authorized Proposition 1 to increase the vehicle fee by $40.This Proposition will be decided in the November 2 election. If approved, the City would receive over 1 million per year to put towards transportation projects in Edmonds. The TBD currently has an approved list of 37 transportation projects to complete. Proposition 1 will allow the City to provide a local match in grant applications, and to maintain and preserve City Streets.
