From Your Executive Director |
So much excitement this month with the 28th "A Taste of Edmonds" just around the corner on August 13th-15th; the David Stern Memorial Golf Classic on August 23rd; and the announcement that the Edmonds Chamber will be the exclusive PRESENTING sponsor of the new Edmonds International Film Festival which will take place on October 20th-24th. We hope everyone will join us at " A Taste of Edmonds" for great entertainment, a fun children's area, wonderful wines, beautiful arts & crafts and of course...fabulous food! This year's entertainment line-up is stellar, as always, thanks to Craig Cooke of Pacific Rim Talent. I'd like to take this opportunity to THANK all of the committee members for all of their hard work: Craig Cooke -- entertainment, sponsors, & kids, as well as event manager; the Journal Media Group -- Advertising & Marketing; Ed Shields and Bill Vance -- facilities; Sandra Waldo -- beer garden coordinator; Valerie Claypool -- wine garden coordinator; Larry LaFave -- city liaison; Stacy Vance -- commercial vendors; Marilyn Lewis -- a&c vendors; Mariana & Don Matthews -- food vendors; Josephine & Evan Lloyd -- information booth; Gwendine Norton -- cash control; Tami Gensch -- service clubs; Sgt. Karl Roth -- police services; Phil Assink & Linda Cadigan -- waste warriors; and Jack Loos -- Chamber board rep. This event is the Chamber's largest fundraiser and we are grateful for the time and dedication of these wonderful committee members. Space is still available, but going quickly, for the 2010 David Stern Memorial Golf Classic on Monday, August 23rd. This year's event will once again be held at Harbour Point Golf Club and will include golf, dinner, and prizes. It's a great day of fun and commaradierie so get your registration in today! Singles, doubles, three-some, or four-somes... we can accomodate them all! And I can't forget the exciting news about the Chamber's Presenting Sponsorship of the Edmonds International Film Festival. The Chamber is proud to be a part of this groundbreaking new event in Edmonds and we hope all our members will join us in showing our support to Founder Fred Greenfield, and Co-Founder Trevor Greenfield, as they embark on this great endeavor.

How do You Know if You Need a Financial Adviser? |
Great question-with a simple answer. The decision to seek professional advice is often driven by some significant life event. I just received an inheritance. I've reached the point where I must get serious about retirement. I've changed jobs. I need to plan for my estate. Or, one wishful thought: I won the lottery. Or maybe it's that today's investment environment is too uncertain to navigate alone. For these and dozens of other reasons, many people today are seeking out financial advisers-and they are being careful about it. They are asking people they know-family, friends, accountants and other professionals-for a referral to a financial adviser they trust. A financial adviser brings you discipline and objectivity around money, so you get peace of mind knowing that you have a professional with resources working on your side. People typically work with an adviser to increase their confidence that they can reach their personal goals-whatever they may be. Whatever your reason may be, meet your prospective adviser and get to know her. Talk about your financial goals and the resources you have today to start on your journey to financial security and independence. Erin Eddins is a Chartered Financial Consultant®, a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional. She has more than 20 years of experience working with individuals and families to develop financial plans and implement investment portfolios to help clients secure their financial futures. Ads for Edmonds Makes Donation to Edmonds Foundation to Sponsor Community Events |
Many remember the successful advertising campaign Team Watkins Advertising produced for The Edmonds Chamber of Commerce several years ago. With 25 years of experience in the advertising industry, David Watkins used print and radio to draw more merchants to our beautiful town by the sea.
The campaign was so beneficial it sparked a new business idea for Watkins, and Ads for Edmonds was formed - a business focused exclusively on helping local merchants.
Watkin's describes Ads for Edmonds as a scaled down version of his larger company Team Watkins, which boasts Factoria Mall and Ray's Boathouse among other clients.
"Ads for Edmonds is the only advertising agency dedicated to businesses in Edmonds," Watkins said. "We are located and focused here. We know the community and the merchants. We have lots of experience and are able to really help people create a smart marketing strategy. [We start] with a marketing health check up and then help [business owners] execute a plan - whether it's big or small. We're very affordable, with several service packages on our website."
Rejoining the Chamber last year after fulfilling other commitments for several years, Watkins is happy to get more involved in his home community again and sponsor events like the Edmonds 4th of July, David Stern Memorial Car Show and Edmonds Classic Car Show.
"I like helping people and businesses in the community," Watkins said. He hosted an after hours networking meeting for Chamber members at the end of June at Arista Wine Cellars that was a great success with 60 in attendance.
Ads for Edmonds is located at 9792 Edmonds Way, #247. For more information visit adsforedmonds.com or call (425) 582-7622.
