From Your Executive Director |
April showers bring May flowers... or, in the case of the Edmonds Chamber, April showers bring the realization of how quickly the months are passing and how soon the 4th of July Celebration will be upon us! Last month the 4th of July Committee met for the first time to start preparing for the day's festivities. Another way the Chamber has been preparing for this event is through the creation of the new Edmonds Chamber Foundation. Why a Foundation? As an Edmonds Chamber member, you are aware of the many events the Chamber hosts for the Edmonds community throughout the year, such as the Taste of Edmonds, the Car Show, the Downtown Edmonds Halloween, the Tree Lighting Ceremony, and of course, the big 4th of July Parade and Fireworks celebration. Many of these events depend on resources in the form of sponsorships and donations to make them financially sustainable. Even though these sponsorships create unique marketing opportunities for the companies that take advantage of them, in these tight economic times it has become more of a challenge to raise the funds necessary to keep them flourishing.
The Edmonds Chamber board felt it was time to investigate the idea of a Chamber Foundation so that sponsors could take advantage of tax deductions offered by the IRS when giving to a 501c3. Once it was determined that gifts made to many of the Edmonds Chamber events would qualify, Purcell & Adams PLLC was retained to charter the new Foundation. Bylaws were composed and approved by the Chamber board.
The new board for the Edmonds Chamber Foundation consists of Theresa Poalucci, Robert Rinehart, Don Ralston, Matt Mikulsky, and Jenny Shore. The group has been working on putting together new sponsorship packages for the foundation to offer.
Their first priority, start working on raising the funds required for the 4th of July. We feel that the Edmonds Chamber Foundation will open the door to many new funding resources that we can give back to our members in the form of benefits. The Foundation board will not only be looking at supporting Chamber events, but also at grant opportunities for business education. They are just beginning to review the possibilities.
If you are interested in volunteering with the Edmonds Chamber Foundation, call me at 425-670-1496, ext. 3.

Plan Now for the Edmonds Chamber 4th of July |
As joyful as the smile on a child's face as they walk in the Children's parade; as satisfying as the person who finishes last in the 5k but is so proud to have finished; as patriotic as the American Flag as it passes by the onlookers on Main Street; and as exciting as every face turned up to an amazing fireworks display; the Edmonds 4th of July -- celebrating its 103rd year! Committee chair for this Edmonds Chamber event, Ron Clyborne, gathered his committee back together in March to start work on this year's event. First on the agenda is procuring sponsorship. With our new Edmonds Chamber Foundation it is even easier than ever to position your product or brand with this well attended community celebration, said Clyborne. New this year, we have added naming right opportunities for the various components that added together make for a glorious family-friendly day.

About the Photographer
I have lived in the Pacific Northwest since the early 1960s, and have always been amazed by the beauty and grandeur of my surroundings. The Alpine beauty of Mt. Rainier, the wonders of the waters of Puget Sound and the desert of eastern Washington, all within a short distance of travel, a virtual photographers wonderland.
I started out with a Brownie 127 from Kodak when I was about 10 years old and graduated, a number of years later, to a couple of different digital camera when they first came out. My friends, and computer clients, told me that my photos were great when I was taking them with those first digitals.
I got serious about photography a few years ago and purchased a Nikon D200 Digital SLR Camera, and when the D300 came out, I knew I just had to have it. Several thousand pictures later, here are some of my best photographs for you to view.
Among my most memorable sales was one to a client who bought three of my cityscapes of Seattle for his den. He then told me that he had purchased several photos from Ansel Adams, and that my photos would hang next to them. Since that time, Hyundai, one of the largest corporations in the world, purchased a photo I took while on the Kingston Ferry of one of their freighters coming out of Puget Sound with Mt. Rainier and Seattle in the background.
When I touch up a photo, my goal is not to make it look unreal, keeping it as natural looking as possible. I always get a kick out of people who say; "Your camera takes great pictures". When it comes down to it, anyone can take pictures with a digital or film camera. However, I believe it is not the camera; it's the person with the eye behind the viewfinder.
I hope you enjoy viewing my photographs, as much as I love creating them.
